If you've ever wanted to drive your own car at Texas Motor Speedway for a few laps, here's your chance and it's for a good cause. The 2nd annual Laps for Charity II benefitting Speedway Children's Charities will be held on Saturday evening, September 26. I realize this is early notice, but it's good to plan early because this event fills up.
OUR START TIME IS 6:30pm. ARRIVE BY 6pm. PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY SEPT. 18 IF YOU WILL ATTEND. I HAVE TO LET THE TRACK KNOW OUR FINAL NUMBER ON 9/18.
It's fun to do this as a group -- either by club or marque -- so if anyone wants to do a DFW Auto Club group, I have coordinated the entry and arranged our starting time (see above). Clubs are assigned reserved times from 5-7pm and then the general public is let in from 7-10pm. I will need an approximate count of how many cars we will bring, so as the September date gets closer, I'll open this thread again to get a final headcount list going. But I will go ahead and reserve a spot for us now with an estimated number so that we'll be guaranteed a reserved time slot.
I participated in this last year with the DFW BMW Roadster Club and it was great. After your laps are finished (3 laps for $30 donation), a photographer is available to take a picture ($10) of you and your car in the actual winnner's circle. After the speedway event, we could pick a good local spot for dinner.
The general rules state a maximum of 75mph when doing the laps behind the pace car, but I distinctly recall seeing my speedometer around 90mph for the roadster laps last year. :) Rules and additional details are on the Speedway Children's Charities web site (http://texas.speedwaycharities.org/events/laps_for_charity_ii_/).

I did this last month with the Crossfire owners group here in town and we did 110-120 the whole time. There was a group of SMART car owners there too....it was funny watching those things to 65~
Fun time....good cause.

Karen count me in again this year! Last year I ran with the Z car folks, great time. Being in the lead coupled with a very cool pace driver I saw 100mph +speeds on all 3 laps! You can buy additional laps and hot lap it after the club runs! :) You need someone with you to take some action pics, they will call you in if they see you with a camera in hand while driving :(

I'm going to make our group reservation sometime this week. Then when we get closer to the event date, I'll update this thread and ask for a final headcount of who plans to attend. Then I will supply the updated attendee number to the event organizer. They just need to have a good estimate of how many cars we will bring and I can adjust the attendee number up until a week or two before the event.

It's time to get the final headcount for this event on the evening of 9/26 (NOTE: the next Cars & Coffee is on the morning of 9/26). Please let me know if you plan to attend because I need to provide the final number to the track by 9/18.
We have a slot reserved at 6:30pm in Lane R (and part of Lane S). We'll need to arrive at the track by 6pm to get lined up. Cost for 3 laps behind a pace car is $30 donation. An additional $10 gets you a picture in victory lane afterwards.

Be really, really brave. It's not easy to run 130+ on that banking. And 150+ is just insane. The ramifications of going that fast become quite clear when there are walls on both sides of you and you can't even read the words on the walls because you are going so fast...

I believe the minimum age is 7 as long as you sign the waiver. I took my daughter last year and she was 9 at the time. No one questioned it.

I'm a newby to the DFW autoclub, but nonetheless, I'd like to try it as well. I just got a brand-new GT-R, and although the speed limit sucks, just for the charity event, the price and the photo op, i'd like to participate.

You must have been one of those that was off somewhere else, and not with the rest of us. It filled up quickly that day. Hopefully, you got to see Limey Racing and Jotech GT-Rs along with the wrapped flat black guys.

You can do as many sets of 3 as you would like. The cost is $30 for a set of 3, so if you take both kids out it would be $60 for 6 laps.

Hey, thanks for catching that date! I'm going to call them this afternoon to finalize our group. I believe each set of 3 laps costs $30. As a group, we have signed up for one set, but I will find out when I call if you can pay for additional sets OR change passengers during the one set of 3 laps.

Mark - I spoke to the track contact and she said that you can't change a passenger during the session of 3 laps, however, you can purchase a "repeat" session for an additional $30 and when you come off the track from the first session, just get in the Repeat line (don't go back to the main lines) and you can change your passenger there. So one of your kids should be waiting in the repeat line area while you are out on the track for the first session.

I'm glad everyone had a good time! I think we had a total of 18 cars show up. Thank you all for participating! I had a good position on the track from a sound perspective because I was a few cars back from Fubar. Sounded awesome!! :)
Sure wish we could have driven faster, though. Last year, we didn't have as many pace cars on the track. I only remember one pace car leading us last year and we didn't have the additional ones like the red truck that was next to me on the track yesterday on my right side. Maybe they were trying to prevent us from going up higher on the banks.
The policeman that was taking our tickets before entering the track remembered my car from last year. I don't know if that's good or not. LOL!!
