If you provide the mirror and V1 Concealed Display part I will do this for DFWAC Members Only for $399 and help you install it. I'm currently selling these online for $499 (without the installation help).

Question is where do you put the actual detector fubar? I would like to do this as well but where do you hide the dad blamed thing.

Truly hiding the V1 is difficult. You can't hide it with anything that will interfere with front or rear reception. A few people have hidden them in cloth headliners, on rear decks, coveres in cloth and even inside a hollowed out headrest.

Mark took his headliner out today and found enough room to mount the V1 unit just above the rear view mirror. He's going to cut out a small window so that the laser detection is still functional. (There is no laser detection to the rear in a V1 so that isn't a concern). ALSO, and this is the cool part.... I desoldered the on/off/mute knob from the main V1 unit and built a wiring harness so the on/off/mute knob is now integrated into the mirror as well! Mark and I pretty much destroyed his factory mirror getting the glass out.. the oem GT mirror is molded onto the glass so disassembly is next to impossible. I'm going to look at some other similar mirrors on other Ford models to see if there is one that will work. For now Mark will use a generic BMW mirror that I converted to mount on his windshield. I will get some pics up asap. :)

I have taken a few pictures of the assembly process so as soon as we have a final product... I will post them all.

I wouldn't be too worried about saving the V1 laser detection. All that does is tell you that you're getting a ticket! Hide the V1 and install a LI!:D

Scott and I just installed the V1 in my M5!! I am absolutely amazed!!! WOW! When I get home I am going to post some pictures!! It looks totally Stock!! We had to take out the homelink for now but I will be relocating it so i can have that feature.
If you are thinking about what to do for your next mod this should be #1 on your list!!!!!

This was my thinking until my unit alerted laser yesterday, pointing back.
I know the Zip Cash reader triggered it so I exited and went back around and reproduced a rear alert laser once again.
After researching it, the V1 does indeed have front and rear laser sensors.

Yeah my bad. Someone else metioned that on another forum and it does have it. The rear laser sensor will be unusable but so far no one has expressed concern about it.

Are you going to be at the meet Saturday? I want to check it out.

Unfortunately I will not be there. I have to go into the office for the day. However, if you stop by cindi's for breakfast you can check it out. Glass Doctor is right next to Cindi's and I dont mind showing everyone the mirror for a minute.

what about us that have the round mirror, the glass is auto dimming so theres a layer of liquid beneath the glass and the reflective portion of the mirror. would it be straight forward for that too?
edit-no diy?

You would have to loose the auto-dim feature. I think Scott actually uses a new piece of glass.

This can be installed in the oval mirror. You will lose auto dimming, however if you have tinted windows you will never know it.

the auto dimming in the rear view also controls my side mirrors. i could live with the rear view, but the side view...noway...
