anyone have a working and in good shape GPS lap timer they don't want/need? i am looking to buy something better that doesn't require as much fiddling as my smartphone timers to work.

What kind of fiddling? For example, with Harry's Lap Timer on iPhone you literally don't have to do anything other than have the app running and preferably securely mounted. Don't have to press any buttons, etc, and you can download the track waypoints in advance. It begins timing automatically as you cross the start/finish line.

the gps in my android sucks on a cloudy day and id like more GPS accuracy than the 1Hz it has. i have an iPhone, but im not on AT&T anymore so it has no service. last time i tried to use it sans service with harry's it refused to work. id like something i don't have to wonder on each track day if it will work.

Gotcha... for what it's worth, you can get 5hz external GPS devices for Harry's now - not sure what the state of compatibility is for the Android apps.

I am going to run a Dual XPGS 150 ( http://www.xgps150.dualav.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=2 ) at my next track day. It links via Bluetooth to the iPhone and supports 5hz with beta firmware. You can then keep the iphone wherever (secured in the glovebox, even in your pocket, etc).

I'm running Trackmaster w/ an external BT GPS at 5hz ... seems to be working well so far.

Do you need to jailbreak your iphone to pair it with a bluetooth GPS? I tried to use a GPS puck it would not pair until I ran jailbreak on it and download another app.

I have been playing with the AiM SOLO. It is a stand alone unit with what looks to be a great desktop software. The unit seems to work ok on tracks that are pre-programmed into the SOLO. I think I had some user error issues last time at ECR. The owners manual is not the best so adding tracks not in the system might be tough. I am looking at using Dashware to overlay video. Rolf at Dashware has been very good at supporting Dashware.

You are welcome to try the SOLO next time we are at the track.

You don't have to jailbreak it any more for the device I'm interested in.

Here's a pretty good and up-to-date page on compatibility: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Compatibility.html
