If Ennis is open go there instead. Dyno's are great and all, but the real story is told at the dragstrip.

High of 60 according to accuweather.com.
Should be good for 11.6's with an SL65!

+1 on the drag strip. Dynos are good tuning aids, but the real truth is what happens when the rubber meets the road. Maybe we need to have the AMG caravan make the trek.

They owe me a free dyno pull over there.. I may take advantage of that and then go to Ennis. Who else is going to Ennis?

Let me guess...you went to their dyno this morning and now you feel cheated? I saw the thread you posted about heading to the dyno.

what is it about their dyno that makes you guys feel cheated? the numbers are all relative...DD dynos are one of the most conservative. Its best if you have run diff runs with diff setups.

Yes, it only pulls to 140mph then goes flat line.. So like me you think a 4th gear pull is what you should be pulling in at a 1:1 ratio.. Like every dyno in the world.. And I get my graph back and it flat lines at 5,400rpm @ 439hp... My car pulls to 7,000.. And the set up takes FOREVER!!!!! You can do 3 times as many pulls on a dynojet from a set up stand point.. and for comparable reasons, you just made a pull on a dyno that nobody else uses?!?!:dontknow:

My tuner just put a dynojet in his shop this week.. 2 big flat screens on the wall for everybody to see the pull. He's in Lewisville, He will be having a dyno day soon.. $40 a head, food drinks.. I'll keep yall posted.

Dyno Dynamics

Louis
02-26-2009, 11:49 PM
excellent tuning tool, but its hard to beat a Dynojet for pure numbers, consistency, and repeatability. I will probably add some form of chassis eddy current like that soon.

RaceMX-M3
02-27-2009, 12:21 AM
After many dynos on every brand here's my 2c's. Dynojet consistently shows higher whp than any other and it's no mystery why Dynojet is the "tuner's" choice. We've seen at least 100 stock cars on the Dyno Dynamics and the whp is consistently the closest to manufacturer's advertised power. fwiw. Dyno's are a tuning tool and you will get the best feedback from runs done on the same day. Beyond that dyno comparisons tend to be fairly hit or miss.

Alright if Darren isn't going to explain, I'll give you guys the news. Here is what happened:

I go to Classic to see who is up there and bull**** with the crew a little but the place is basically empty. I wasn't going to run the Caddy because it is still in it's 5000 mile break-in period (bull****). However, sense no one is in line for the Dyno and I have 2000 miles on it I figured, wtf? The Caddy pulls 3 times 454,445 451 with tq at 450 each time. Cool, I'm happy, especially on Classc's Dyno, which always reads low.

Darren comes in and says he isn't going to run because they don't have adequate cooling fans set-up. But he changed his mind also. This is where things get interesting. His car only made 456 on the Dyno. Darren claims it is because NA cars need to be fed air while FI cars will suck in all the air they need. hmmm, we both feel a "test" of that theory is needed.

Off we go to Mexico...

1) From a dig with Q there for good looks. Me and Darren spin like crazy and Q pulls out in the lead.

2) 40 roll, huge transmission lag for me (I feel like a lost at least a cars length for that) but the Dinan M5 still pulls another 2 car lenths on the CTS. Q got shut down by a lane that ended (I'm glad you were looking down the road a good clip Q :thumbsup2:)

3) 3 honks, I floor it (same problem with the transmission; lose one solid car lengh) but the Dinan still pulls out another 2 cars on me. Same results 40 - 120ish. Oh and Q pulled both of us in this "test"... congrats Q.

So, hypothesis tested, a NA car needs airflow to preform properly on any Dyno. That means any NA car that has tested at Classic can start adding 150 hp to whatever number they gave you.

Ready for the **** talk? Pulley/tune (and some work on launching an Automatic), I'll own that Stroked M5.

Mark,

I agree completely on this one. I have the same issue with the C63. If I just floor it it needs to drop several gears and the initial lag gives the SMG cars a huge edge. Being in the right gear when you nail it yields much better results.

That's why I wasn't excited about the video. I am still not launching the car good and I am sure the BMW boys think it was a fair comparison of the two cars. I want to race again before I change anything. Then we will do a pully/tune race.

Oh well, I would bet the farm that my 4 year old boy could out run a stock M5 in that thing.

Agreed, I am told there are two basic techniques:

1) is to use the peddle shifter and then switch to auto after it gets rolling.

2) hold one foot on the brake (like brake boosting) to get the transmission to drop the gears.

then I guess there is always the "hit it on the second honk" method. :thumbsup2:

That third method made me bust a gut.

There is a "best gear selection" mode on mine that supposedly if I hold the shift lever or steering wheel downshift paddle for 2 seconds the trans will select the best gear for acceleration based on current speed and then auto shift after that. I need to mess around with that and figure out how it works.:burnout:
