I'm going to buy a portable water deionizer so I can rinse my cars without the need to towel dry them and avoid water spots. I was talking to the manufacturer about trying to get a discounted price and wanted to see how many of the club members would be interested in potentially buying one. List is $299 plus shipping and I'm going to try to get 10% off or $269 plus shipping. If you would be interested in getting one, PM me so I can determine how many we might get when talking to the manufacturer.

Sounds interesting.
How expensive is the filtering media?

The media lists for $80 plus shipping and is supposed to provide about 36 spot free car rinses. I'm going to try to negotiate for a diacount on the media as well. If I can get 10% off on that it would be $72 plus shipping.

Mike, I read that this system is a lot better and lower cost overall over on m5board.... I don't know if it is still available. It has to do with cost after you buy i.e. refills.....

I've looked at quite a few systems and have heard very good things about the one I posted the picture of. The resin refill is $150 for 2 on the unit from Costco and the $80 for one ($72 with 10% discount) on the one I posted. For those that really want to lower their per rinse cost and don't mind a larger up front investment, they offer a 2 tank unit that uses different media in each tank (unlike the costco one that uses the same media in both tanks.) and offers 2 1/2 times as many rinses per refill. The refills on that model are $92 before any discount and yield approx 92 rinses. The unit itself is $545 before discount so hopefully around $500 with a discount.

While somewhat effective, a blower is not really the same thing as a spot free rinse.:)

I have that unit. Let me share some of the things I found out about the DIC 20.
1.) It is a great unit. Always a spot free wash.
2.) You can find some deals on it if you look. But the Costco price of $369.99 is usually the best.
3.) Resin fills are around $90.00. Go here for the best price...
http://www.detailersdomain.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=57
4.) Because the majority of homes have hard water....Your resin does not last as long before a refill. (This will be the case with any de-ionizing system.) So keep that in mind. I can get about 13-17 washes before I need to refill. Your mileage may very!
5.) But Overall I give this system a 9. IF I could get a few more washes before a resin refill it is a dead 10!

A dark colored car in Texas during the summer is an exercise in patience and diligence to wash.
Whichever system is decided to be the best long term option, I am interested in.

Interesting both are assembled in the U.S. all parts must be from China?

I should have discounted pricing on the units from On The Go later this week. One nice thing they offer that the CR Spotless units don't is the ability to convert from a mixed media system to a dual media system which offers a way cheaper per rinse cost over the long term.

I have the same unit and have had it for 15 months. I'm on my first refill of media but sometimes I wash the car with it too, not just rinse. I think it's great.

Mike, where do you put the On The Go unit - it doesn't seem to come with a rolling cart like the CR Spotless does (probably doesn't need it, as it looks small). Do you just let it drag on the ground between two hoses or at the spigot:questionmark:
Qship5
07-24-2009, 01:04 PM
They are designing a cart as we speak, but the unit has a carrying hadle on top for now. You would just connect the short hose supplied to the spigot and then your regular hose to the outlet side. The unit will stand upright during use.

OK everyone,
Sorry for the delay, but here's the scoop on the spot free rinse systems...
After much reasearch into the systems available and the science behind deionization of water I have come to the conclusion that the best product currently available is the deionizers from On the Go. The units are available as a single tank model which has the two different media mixed in a single tank and a dual tank model that has each of the two media required to deionize the water in seperate tanks. (Processing the water through seperate media increases the efficiency of the process.) I have listed below a table that shows the two units and the capacities and cost per gallon for the two versions. (For reference, my TDS at home is 200 ppm and after treatment was 0 - 1 ppm.) The dual tank, mixed media unit will produce about 2 1/2 times as much deionized water as the single tank unit per media refill. (The mixed media model can be upgraded to a dual bed at a later time if desired.)
The attached Word document has charts showing the capacity and cost per gallon for the two units.
I spoke to the manufacturer and in order to get the kind of discount I was looking for I had to sign up as a dealer of their products. To make a long story short, I will be selling these units via the web, and will be offering reduced pricing to the DFWAC members. Listed below is the total delivered cost of both the single tank units (mixed media) and the dual tank units (seperate cation and anion media), showing the manufacturer web price, my regular web price and the reduced DFWAC price. The DFWAC special pricing will be available until September 15th of 2009. The units can be shipped to you or you can get them from me at the Saturday meets.
Mixed media deioninzer
Mfg web price $317
My web price $295
DFWAC promotional price $285
Dual bed deionizer
Mfg web price $581
My web price $545
DFWAC promotional price $525
Refills can be purchased through me or directly from the manufacturer. The approx costs are shown below for the various refills.
Mixed media refill
Mfg web price $90
My web price $88
Dual bed refill
Mfg web price $110
My web price $105
Anyone who is interested in purchaing one at the special DFWAC pricing can PM me to let me know which model you are interested in. I currently have 1 dual bed and 2 mixed bed units in inventory and will be ordering more next week to have them availble for the following Saturday.
Thanks,
Mike

I was VERY skeptical of this, but several people have bragged about not having to use towels. I am lazy, so it sounded like just the ticket to me.
So, washed my wife's E63 today with the mixed media, single can setup I got from Mike (QShip). Trusted Mike and didn't touch it with a towel. Just let it dry in garage for a few hours...
NOT A SINGLE SPOT OR FILMING ANYWHERE INCLUDING GLASS!!! Car looks better than when I towel dry and paint feels much smoother to me. I also am looking forward to wax jobs lasting longer and fewer micro scratches I have to polish out.
Best car care product EVER! Call or PM Mike and buy one, trust me!

2) Add Bubbles (via microfiber mitt)
3) Rinse off

Wow... good stuff, I was worried about water spots during the "soap" phase, that may show after the rinse, if a total towel dry wasn't performed... more worried about this with my black DD, that I would love to be able to be more lazy about washing... thanks for the info guys:thumbsup2:

Just FYI, you do have to soap it up first (with plain water) because the filtered water does not flow fast enough to "blast" off dirt. It is strictly a rinse system but it works great. I don't even break a sweat washing the car any more.

Picked my unit up from Mike last night.
I just washed the car and I had to post (although not many posts lately) because I was simply AMAZED at the results.
I only used the unit to rinse off and I tested it by letting the car sit out in the sun.... not a spot on the car... I opened the doors and trunks and wiped before moving the car into the garage....just in case....like the others have said.. I have no idea how I ever lived without one of these.. Thanks Mike!! keep up the great work with your weekly car care tips as well.

I have used my OTG Mixed Media 3 times now and all I can say is WOW! Unfortunately my OCD kicks in after about 30 mins and I end up doing a quick wipe down. Though I give in and do a quick wipe down, the areas that have air dried are spot free! For me, this product’s value is in its ability to allow for a leisurely paced wash and more importantly nearly eliminate those damn drip marks (mirrors, license plate area, etc…) once you drive the car. How did I ever live without this product!

Okay, the weather cooperated today and we were able to demo the rinse system at the meet this morning. B-Rad was kind enough to donate his car for the demo. We washed the car and rinsed it off, letting it air dry. B-rad had to leave before the car had time to completely dry, but a fair amount of it was dry. I don't want to bias the results, so I'll ask that the members that were there to share their opinion on the results.

Well I have the means and picked one up! I used it on Sunday and was very pleased with the performance! I used the handy dandy water tester that came with the kit to run a few “comps” of the water in my house. My Dissolved Solids out of the hose in the back yard came out at 276 ppm. My sink in the kitchen tested at 230 ppm and my water from the fridge was 160 ppm. The water from the new On the Go system tested at 003 ppm!!!! I think I need to change the filter in my fridge, cause my car gets better water than I do.
As advertised, no spots and boy was it tough to not dry the car! I kept going out to “inspect” for spots and have to say the car looked great~:thumbsup2:

I just recently used the system that I picked up from Mike and I regret not purchasing one sooner.
My car is black, which meant my wash options were limited to:
1) wash car at dawn/dusk (really a pain)
2) commit to using a detail wax every time I washed the car
Well I am happy to report that is no longer the case! Washed the car in direct sunlight this past Saturday! I continue to be amazed that the system works as advertised. What was once a 2 hour project is not 30-45 minutes max!
