BMW Rear View Mirror Removal

This thread will illustrate how to remove the rear view mirror and map light assembly from most current generation BMW's. The only tool required will be a thin flat head screwdriver.

First remove the black plastic shell that encloses the mirror bracket. The cover has several plastic clips that snap together. Push down on the right hand side of the cover near the seam and gently pry apart with the screwdriver.

Once the cover has been removed, dismount the rear view mirror from the windshield by turning the mirror counterclockwise approx 45 degrees and it will come right off.

Disconnect power connection(s) and you're done.

Map Light Assemby Removal

Using a flat head screwdriver gently pry the map light unit down at the rear of the assembly - there is one clip on each side. Disconnect the power connection to complete removal of the map light.

Don't let any of the liquid leak out of the mirror, it will damage whatever it lands on.
