GPS based performance accelerometer times (Drift Box or Performance Box)
PLEASE NOTE: Only GPS based, data-logger times from either Drift Box, Performance Box or V-Box units will be accepted for this list. No extrapolated times from 1/4 mile time-slips. Fubar and I each own a V-Box and will make them available to local club members free of charge.
Also, all submitted data must be reviewed for accuracy and approved by me before the time is posted. Simply attach the data off of the Drift Box/Performance Box SD card and email it to me at scott@dfwautoclub.com . When I have time, I will review the data and let you know the results.
Please note; all submissions that show greater than a 3% downhill slope over the course of the run will not be accepted. If there are errors or if I find other problems with the data, it will not be posted as an official time.
The below list can include any vehicle that belongs to any member of this forum.

I love the DCT. It has some annoying quirks, as with any first year chassis BMW M car ;), but overall, well worth it.
Dinan diff was supposed to be mailed today, should be here early next week. I've already prepaid for it, 5 hour install, and I'll be ready to :driver:. Got an incredible deal on it with Autoscope plus the 15% Dinan rebate currently going on. Can't wait! If it's anything like the diff'd M6 in the group, I'm in for a little treat! I wasn't digging 14MPG anyway, I wanna do much worse!

The diff should help get a bit more torque to the ground on your M3. That will help you burn up the rear tires even faster. :burnout:

Well I should say, my first set of rear PS2's only lasted 4000 miles, 1200 of which was break in. Got the second set put on, and they lasted up until about 1000 miles ago. I've got T1R's on now, we'll see how long they last...I'm guessing they won't last much longer than the DE weekend at MSR. :D

bored late at night and reading along, that gsx-r 1000 time seems to be way off
at tx2k9 (the supra event), a bolt on gsx-r 1000 did 60-130 in 4.58 seconds
i only mention it so people can realize what it would take in a car to run against a exhaust, tune, liter bike with a good rider. we all see stories of cars beating bikes but it is very difficult to do.

Sweet. 6.4 is the best I can get.
are you punching it at 60 and going or building up the speed?
on my turbo setup, its fastest going from a 1st gear punch and shifting. for me, the time it takes to shift is less than the time I lose by being at a lower rpms. on the whipple, you might be better off punching it around 45 in 2nd and letting it build up momentum.
i bet you can hit a 5.90 if you can get traction in 1st gear

Scott I'm sure there is technique involved in getting a good/better time from the VBox... any advice would be welcome...:thumbsup2:
There's definitely some things you can do to improve your time, as Kelly mentioned you should start well before 60 and build momentum (and make sure you are at full boost if you're f/i).
When and where you shift can make a big difference. My M3 is geared perfect for 60-130, 3rd to 4th - only one shift and in the meat of the powerband the whole time. In my E60 M5 (7 spd) the 60-130 actually required 3 shifts (2-3-4-5) and one was at about 65 and the other at 129! My best time in the M5 came by starting in 3rd and eliminating one of the time robbing shifts. Just have to experiment with it.
A few other things I do are: remove any uneccesary weight from your car, i.e. stuff in the trunk, don't bring a passenger, run on minimal fuel.. A 3.00% downslope is allowed so take advantage of it, don't drive uphill. Try different locations. Don't drive into gale force winds. Try to do your run in optimal weather, cooler temps are good for power but rob traction. Try lowering the psi in your rear tires to get a bigger footprint and better traction. Do a couple of rolling burnouts just before the run to heat your tires. Make sure your windows are rolled up.
That's about all I do. Some people go to much greater lengths, taping the gaps between hood/fender, removing their interior, running drag slicks, tuning their car specifically for the best performance from 60-130. At some point it starts to get a little ridiculous.
Mr.Big
09-24-2009, 02:38 AM
At some point it starts to get a little ridiculous.
Sure...I could see that being the case.
Thank you for taking the time to post advice... the trial and error to get the minimal shifts vs optimal velocity at the 60mph mark is a very good piece of advice btw... that'll just take some trial and error. But sure does sound like a fun way to have a friendly competition...

Just went out with the GT3 to MSR on the 1.7 CCW track. PBOX file with fast lap attached. Start/Finish is located at pit out since the flagger is on the wall (vs normal S/F). The .dsf file is also attached.
I have a bunch of old data from my last car, but I am just now collecting new GT3 data. I am going to try to hit all the local tracks in the next few months to get data points as well.

Where you out there J? I did not see you or your car…I could have misses it as I left at 3:00. I saw a few of Kelly’s runs, they did look dicey even with the drag tires on. I could see his tires spin (looked like mist coming off the tires) on every gear change or it might have been as you were building boost. You are a braver man than I.
I made two passes in my car on street tires and gave up….I was spinning through most of the track as well. Did not want to put it into the wall.
What a waste of good DA…when I got to the track at 1:00 it was -98ft below sea level. On my second pass it had only climbed to 200ft above.
Oh and Scott it was Dallas Raceway. Ennis is closed but DR is open most Sundays.

I was on "kill"....24psi. Yes, I lost. My car had blown off a BOV vacuum line on the previous mile pass without me knowing it. When I raced SW, my car was breaking up badly...in which I completely let out halfway through. I could've stayed in it and made it a better race...but I decided to be safe. I still haven't gotten smaller wheels and drag radials (still on 19's and Toyo street tires) but conditions this morning were very favorable for beating my old time so I put a few gallons of race fuel in and topped off my methanol tank and headed out to the track.
I ran a 5.83 on a 1.84% decline. The tires did not get full traction in 3rd at all but slip was minimal. It looks like the shift took only .2 seconds, which is about the fastest I recall seeing on one of these runs. :)

I may try those. I bought 17" wheels and put BFG Drag Radials on and could not get them to hook from a 60 roll and 70 degrees running as low as 12 psi. I think the tires were bad. I took them back and may try MT's. My chassis isn't designed for this stuff so that may be part of the problem as well.

which tire is best on the track? I don't think that tire is available in a size I can fit inside my fenders. The BFG 275/40/17's were rubbing pretty bad - I can adjust camber a little but I doubt a 295 will fit. :(

I'm curious... When doing this timed run, do you sit at 60mph & then floor it, or do you start at like 40 or 50, & get on it, and it just starts to count the run when you hit 60mph?

You start off from a low mph roll. The more momentum you have at 60mph the better your end result will be.

Jason dropped by this morning to borrow my vbox and ran a very impressive 5.24 on a 0.6% downslope (basically flat) in his Dallas Performance tuned Z-51 procharged Corvette with no shifts. The time is good for 2nd position on our official 60-130 list and 0.1 second off the record held by Mr Hollywood.
Awesome time Jay, congrats. :thumbsup2:

Thanks for posting Scott.. I wasn't even really trying a 60-130.. I was trying to make a 100-150 pull. The 60-130 I just kept it in 4th which at 60mph is 2,500rpm.. I want to top the 6speedonline 100-150 pull but my limiter needs to be raised 200rpm.. It did 100-146 in 3.4.. definately enought o be the top runner on 6spd online..

Yes sir... See no shifts in the graph, just lugged it along in 4th starting @ 50mph @ about 2,000rpm.. I'd love to have traction to start in 3rd! I think it would run a solid low 4..

Jason I remember riding in your vette back when it was just a heads/cam car - and you said something like "this car has no business being this fast". - That kinda makes me laugh at your power numbers now!

There was a black convertible that crashed, not too much to see though. Spun and the car backed over a curb. Broke the wheel off and who knows what else.

Keep in mind all those Gallardo times were done on the drag strip in the 1/4, a bit different than a roll on on the highway. Still crazy fast but... ya.
