This week's tip is about claying your car.

If you polish and/or wax your own car you need to use a clay bar first in order to make sure the paint is free of contaminents that might create scratches during the polishing or waxing process.

When using a clay bar, the ideal way is to make flatten out the clay into a disc, about the size of the palm of your hand. Spray your clay lubricant onto the area of the car you want to work on and then gently rub the clay over the area in a back and forth motion.

You will get the best results by making sure the clay is in the palm of your hand and not your fingers. Using the palm provides more even pressure over the surface of the clay. Without realizing it, you naturally apply more pressure with your fingers and if the clay is under that part of your hand, you will end up applying uneven pressure and your fingers will work through the clay, forcing you to stop sooner and reshape the clay into a flat disc.

Work the clay over the area until it is gliding smoothly with no feeling of resistance. Wipe the area clean with a microfiber towel and move on to the next section following the same process. Once you have completed the entire car or the section you are going to work on, the paint will be free of any surface contamination and ready for polish or wax.

Afterwards, take a step back and enjoy the look of your clean paint!:thumbsup2:

Good tip Mike, I've been using my fingers this whole time. Next time I will rub the lubricant with my palm, can't wait to try this. :)
