This week we're going to talk about detailing your tires.

The key here is to remember that your tires are rubber, which is a breathable, natural material. When washing your car, you want to wash the tires and use a rubber cleaner that will remove any contaminents that have settled on the tires. (There's no point in applying a protectant to dirty tires!) I like Griot's Garage rubber cleaner. Spray it on, let it soak a minute or two and then use a brush to scrub the tire. After scrubbing, spay it off with a hose and let it dry. Once dry, you can apply a protectant to your now clean tires. When it comes to tire protectants. shinier is not better. You want to use a protectant that will give a deep black color and also condition the rubber itself. My current fave is Pinnacle Black Onyx. Black Onyx has no petroleum distillates or alcohol in it so it is good for your tires. It provides a deep black color with a light sheen that really sets off your car.

This week was a simple tip, but I hope it helps some of you keep your car in top shape! Both Products are available through our partner Autogeek and you can link to them from our web site if you want to.

Good info Mike, I purchased an array of car care products from Detail Perfection a few weeks ago and didn't actually realize what I had. About 5 min after I stuck my microfiber detail towels in the wash I came across the PNB Micro Rejuvinator, a special detergent designed to remove oil and damaging grit and restore the towels to new. :thumbsup2:

I also received a new clay bar and special lubricant (palm only :)) and have spent the last few days removing contaniments from the paint on my M3 and E55. Didn't know until recently but the clay also works well for removing debris from a clear bra.

btw, Mike you burn through tires so fast why do you bother trying to worry about coddling them?
