Great choice, my E60 M5 was the best car I've ever owned.

Chris P had a Dinan S3 M6 (stroker) up for sale recently. Heard it sold on ebay but not sure. If I was in the market I'd be all over this. I will shoot him a text and see if he sold it.

Just got a text from Chris, the Dinan M6 is still for sale. The motor build was about $50k. He probably has another $20+ in mods, cf hood, Dinan (Brembo) brakes, wheels, suspension, exhaust, etc, etc.. He wants $90k minimum, which is a steal imo.

Only 13.5k miles on the M6.

Kelly, would Trinity be cool with the semi-jerky shifting of an SMG car? I'm assuming it hasn't gotten quite as smooth as a full auto when it comes to shifting.

The M5/M6 has multiple shift settings and having owned a E60 M5 (unless you're in S6 and shifting at 8250 rpms the shifts are not noticeable. My wife drove my M5 a few times and every time she got home her pant(ies) were wet, ftw. :)

Scott, my brother's M3 is an SMG II car as well. I've learned how to get it to shift 90% smoothly, but it's not anywhere as mindless as a true automatic car. My Lexus GS430 at WOT is silky smooth in all shifts. In my brother's M3, putting around in S5 is too jerky for "smooth" driving, and the shift time in S1 is so painfully long, I'd rather just give the car hell in S5 than deal with S1. If the engagement of the clutch was slower and smoother, but the actual shift time was faster, I would be happy.

I was just bringing it up, as I'm not sure if Kelly had considered it, that's all. I know his wife drives standard, but I would bet they would go SMG if they got a M5, and I wasn't sure if the E60 M5's had a smoother clutch engagement/shifting program than the SMG M3's.

Sounds like a cool car...but not what I'm looking for.

Our last M5 was a 6speed and she got tired of driving it every day. Not sure about a SMG car, as neither of us have driven one.

Tell her to go test drive the SMG (in traffic not going 200 down a side street). If she doesn't like the transmission it will be better to find out now. I will admit to getting old and I rather enjoy a brainless drive to work, that is why the CTS-V auto was and still is very appealing. The Caddy's torque is nice too but it will never have the curb appeal or prestige that come with a nice european sedan.

That was Ralph C's, which was actually Chris P's old M5 with AC Schnitzer wheels put on. He sold it in June to an attractive mother here in the Plano area. Have not heard about it since. It did do 160mph plus at the Texas Mile.

I have an 06 with 35,xxx miles on it. I'd be looking to let her go under 50K w/o the rims or exhaust...besides I doubt your wife would want my exhaust anyways lol

do the new m5s have DCT? if they do then its well worth finding one of those.

DCT can only be appreciated though if you have driven a car with one.

other than that id check m5board, plenty of crazy deals on there.

SMG II is a great trans, but for around town smoothness, forget it. DCT is light years ahead in that area. SMG excells when you are driving 9/10ths and above. Couple that with the M5 motor which wants to be at 7000 rpms and above and you don't have a great DD. BTW, JMO
