If you are putting it in an M3, I read some about it on another site. It was stated that the weight of the OEM batter had been taken into account when calculating weight distribution in the rear of the car. A lighter battery would throw the weight balance off. I don't know if that is the gospel, but it is what I read.

I believe there is a sponsor on m5board as well that sells lightweight batteries.

There is, it is Volt Phreaks, and they make some really light and really expensive batteries. The one for most of our cars lists for either $1500 or $1700. They were giving M5Board members a $500 discount, but that's still one expensive battery!

Odyssey are the best battery you can get (so I am told). They supply the military and are considered a racetrack standard.

Their race series batteries are certainly lighter than the stock batteries in our cars, but I can't tell from the site if they are designed for everyday use. It looks like the ones we would need to use are either 20 or 27 lbs which is substantially heavier than the voltphreaks units. They might however be a lot less $$. Personally I'll look elsewhere to shave 20 - 30 lbs off my car.

Also remember, any of you bimmer owners with SMGs that the SMG system requires a slightly higher rated battery than non SMG.
