I have had my Passport 8500 x50 for about two years now and I'm thinking of upgrading. I am curious to know what the predominant brand/model that you guys are using.

+1 :thumbsup2: There is no other V1 Rules! Mike Valetine was a founder of Escort in Cincinnati many years ago. When he left (was bought out), Escort lost its real technologist! Of course for a few years Mike was unable to compete with Escort due to the money he was paid, but after that time was up, he came out with the V1. I met him once and what a guy! :burnout:

I use the 9500i.. I like to be able to block out false signals as well as the redlight camera alert.. You really can't go wrong with either of them.. Personal preference for me. You're still screwed with laser on any of them though.. That's the worst sound.. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... Yep.. I'm screwed.

1500.00 for most laser jammers that I have seen...you need both I guess for the best coverage.

Used them all V1, 8500 X50 (I own), and 9500i. They are all great, but its really personal preference. I still prefer Escort.

I prefer the V1 with the arrows and the bogey counter. With laser, unless you have a jammer, you are toast anyway when it goes off.
I love the V1. Best money spent on a radar detector for me so far anyway.

$1500 is a bit steep for a laser jammer unless you are looking at a 4 head unit. $750 will get you a 2 head Laser Interceptor (The best jammer out there) and will cover all but the largest truck/SUV in front. I have never seen a cop try and use laser from behind a vehicle, so in my opinion a 4 head unit is overkill.

9500i - you can't beat the GPS false signal blocking. V1 isn't tolerable sometimes it beeps so much. If you're worried about the V1 being the best performer, read this: http://radartest.com/article_2.asp?articleid=100578

You don't need a subscription to block things you see though. You get one update for free, then you watch for new cameras, which isn't like there is a new camera going up in Dallas everyday. It's either that or get a signal beep every time a red light camera shoots out a radar beam at your car with a V1.

Very true B. I simply turn off X band on my V1 and I don't get 95% of the falses from cameras, door openers, etc.
If Mike Valentine would just build a V1 with GPS capabilities, remote mounting with front and heads and add in the laser jamming functionality of the LI with a warning display integrated into your instrument cluster I'd be all set.:thumbsup2:

Thankfully, in advanced mode on my 9500 (i.e. bar graph with bogey counter) I can always tell immediately that it's a bus.

On a side note, does anyone know if they still do refurbished V1s? I remember for a while you could get a refurb'd V1 for about $100 or so less than a new one, and it had all the latest hardware. I went on their site the other day, and I can't find an option for one.

I believe Fort Worth passed some kind of law for radar emitters to be on school buses to alert people with radar that a school bus is nearby so that that will not run into it or something like that. I have not lived there in last 3+ years and can not remember the specifics. Someone in Fort Worth could probably explain it better.
The law was probably passed by the same retards the changed trash collection to once a week, and made you rent the stupid plastic containers with limited space that you have to keep up with. So all the trash collection rates stayed the same, while they only pick-up once instead of twice a week, and they limit you on how much you can put out.

Okay, I have the V1 conceal module and when I press the mute button on it, it doesn't mute. I was thinking that it would behave the same way as the smart cord on the Escort.
Am I doing something wrong or do I have a faulty conceal module?

Each bus has two K-band radar emitters, each with its own frequency...one emitting towards the front, and one to the rear.

What about the Bell detectors like the STi driver? http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=100542
It seems to pick up at farther range that the V1, but I don't know enough about it to make a clear decision. I like the V1...but they pack so much into the case that can't make it un-ugly. The V1 has a better price for sure too.

If during a radar encounter you are pressing the mute button on the concealed display modulke and the V1 isn't muting you either have a faulty module or maybe a bad cable.

I think most still have the V1 on the windshield. up high. I've seen some trick mounts where the V1 is on the rear deck and covered by fabric to match the deck or hidden in the headliner. As long as the mouting location provides clear views front and rear it should work OK.

You still have to mount the V1 because the conceal display only removes the controls away from the main device, but the main device must still detect the radar.
I'm trying to decide to mount mine up high below my rearview or mount it low right above the wipers.

the rear-deck install doesn't look bad either. I sent a note to Technik 1, they do the custom rearview mirror V1 remotes. Curious to see what they charge. If it isn't ridiculous...I'll let you guys know how much

I have the Kalibre K40. It's fully integrated into the car so most people don't even know it's there. Currently I have the front Radar Detector and Laser Diffuser installed.
Here are pictures from the previous owner showing how it's installed:

The remote control is also hidden, so I don't have to worry about putting anything away/turning anything off when I shut the car down.

I've got the V1 installed in the headliner on the M5 with a StealthOne (http://www.stealthone.biz/) module. Works great, though I think the metallic coating on the windshield messes with it a bit. Seems to come down to personal preference, but the integration/stealth install with the V1 sold me on it. Just wish I could figure out how to get both front and rear remote detector heads installed, so I could put them at better points on the car.

Southbound on GB after the last tollbooth where it turns into 161. There was a motorcycle cop underneath the bridge after a curve shooting laser.
I was actually going slower than normal and cruising with the flow of traffic. I just made the mistake of being in the left lane with no cars in front of me. Maybe it's time for a laser jammer.
