Looking into getting into a 300C SRT8... 06, 39K miles for $22k plus $2500 for 4yr unlimited mile full coverage warranty through Chrysler.

I just wanted to see what everyone thinks of the car in general? Anyone ever have one? :driver:

CTS-V > SRT8 in every way. Those things really dont bring much to the table

I agree with Junkie.. The HEMI 6.1 and it's transmission are both know for being a weak links. The LS2 and LS3's can take crazy amounts of abuse and are extremely easy to make big power for little money.. The CTS-V is also a bit easier on the wallet for maintenance as well. I would take a look at the first gen CTS-V's. Drive both and see what you think..

Hmmmm... Thanks for the info guys. I'll try and drive a ctsv tomorrow and post my thoughts.

I would love to hear what your impression is being an M5 owner.. Not to mention the CTS-V interior is a lot nicer than the 300C... The 300C has the cheapest plastic interior bits I have ever seen.. Door panels and dash are Horrible!!

You probably wont like a first gen V as much as your M5 but overall they are a cool car. IMO to be really fun a gen 1 is going to need heads/cam at least. The 04's are LS6 powered and 05+ is an LS2. TMK 05+ are also the only years with steering wheel controls and some other small things.

I would get an 05, that way you can do the cam and LS3 heads for CHEAP and pick up over 100rw..

Will, what do you think about this setup on a V2?

We have 1.85 ratio rocker arms, that add more power and make the Cam equivilent to 550 ~ lift instead of the low 498. They are a direct bolt in thing and takes less than an hour to do. Just pull your valve covers, pull off your stock rockers, put these on, torque to 33ft lbs and you are good to go.
They are only $650 for the set.

does it sound like an option that makes sense?

x2. LS3 heads rock and will only work with the LS2 bore size. A stock LS6 wont take a head like that. LS2 heads are actually very similar to LS6 heads, neither of which are great.

ppl do something similar with Vipers so yeah it makes sense. Not something Ive ever done on a stock-ish LSx but for $650 id think its worth trying. Wait4me was one of the first guys to mod the V2's right?

I drove a 2005 CTS-V today and was pleasantly suprprised. It is similar to the M5 but is a more raw experience. The finish out is better than the 300c but it is still plastic. The only thing that bothered me was the size of the steering wheel. It is rather large in diameter...

Non the less I am working the numbers and will hopefully be modding one soon. Thanks guys!

Picked up the V today! Drove it about 150 miles already. It's a fun fun car. It may be odd to some but I'm enjoying it more than my m5!

The more you drive it the more you will love it! Keep up posted if you want to do anything. From what i can tell you road race your M? I dont know if a CTS-V will hang on a road course but mine with ground control coilovers, Koni shocks, and hotchkis sway bars felt really solid.

Nothing odd about enjoying torque! The CTS is stronger down low than the M5.

Yup.. and has more torque than the M5 as well...

You can put heads, cam, and headers and make about 550hp with it and keep it's reliability. OR, just slap a procharger on it bone stock and make 650!:D VERY cool car!! Congrats!! Glad you got it instead of the SRT!:thumbsup2:

Thanks again for steering me clear of the SRT8 guys! I would have regretted it in the long run for sure...

I got the factory extended warranty, bumper to bumper 4yr 40K miles so I cant do anything crazy with mods. I do plan on doing some exhaust (cat-back and maybe headers) and just a drop in filter or possibly an intake of some sort. Thoughts?

You can actually do a LPE GT2-3 cam, it sounds completely stock. I did that on my Trailblazer SS, a tune and a CAI and picked up 45rwhp and brought it to the dealer for warranty work, they even replaced a transmission under warranty with this setup. It's the most stealth set up possible.

catback is worthless for power really on those cars unless your talking big high compression built motor. Go with a nice set of headers, i had Kooks. And if you want the car to be loud run a nice electric cut out

God no!! Use a local shop, that way they can make adjustments to it as you mod it.. Plus a local shop will adjust your tune to really maximize performance and you will get the before and after dyno graph as well.. and it will be much less. I could refer about 5 different great tuners here in dfw.. What part of town do you live in?

LS3 heads and a bottle. I just so happen to have those parts :)

Hell no to the tuner, have a local guy do it. Sam is a private guy but one of if not the very best! Louis and the guys at LG are great, and my car ran really well with Taylors tune from DP in it.

BTW as a testimate to how cool you can make these things look, heres a few pics of mine in different stages.

headlight armor or some sort of shade/tint over the head lights, tail lights and 3rd brake light is a must! I used this place for my head lights.

http://www.headlightarmor.com/

and i had a local guy custom paint my tails and 3rd brake light. I could get you before and after pics of anything if you would like or have any questions.

Also what hood and wheels are those in the last pic? Thanks again!

I dont have any exterior parts or anything like that. I'll send you a PM of some motor stuff though. The wheels are SP600's from CCW in 19" You can fit a 20 on them now and it looks sick but i doubt its very usable.

20's on a 360forged car.

The hood was a specter works hood, that company also mikes a nice looking spoiler.
