My friend's daughter just totalled her Mustang and needs another car. If you or anyone you know is selling an inexpensive, reliable car that would be suitable for a 17-year-old high school girl, please let me know.

What type of car? Another Mustang? How inexpensive? Less than $5K? Less than $3K?
I'd suggest a Honda Accord. Teens usually neglect cars and I know from experience in the past Honda's will keep on going better than most cars with constant neglect LOL.
I know someone that might be selling a 97 Explorer, generally a decent vehicle, but does have minor issues that you'd expect with a 13 year old truck.

Not the best vehicle for a young girl.. VERY top heavy if you have driven one.. Not the best gas mileage either..
I think a Honda would be a good choice, I bought my little sister a 94 Acura legend 6mos. ago w/ 170k on it.. Very reliable car and she has had no issues.

I'd recommend an M3. They have better handling characteristic than most Exploers and a good safety record (expect for that guy who ran himself over). Karen, you should teach her except nothing less than the best.
She can buy my car Karen (never been raced) :hahaha:

Yeah I've owned two Exploders in the past. I figure if I didn't tip it over then most people should be OK LOL. I hate slowing down to go round corners, big fan of conservation of momentum. I was playing around trying to drift one of the Exploders on a wet spot once and had a "hairy" moment when it suddenly caught grip LOL.
Only issue with the 2nd generation Legend is the head gasket. Turned out to be a weak spot, usually beween cyl's 2 & 3. Once the HG is changed though it's usually good. My 1st generation, 88 Legend was the most un-breakable car I've owned.
I've seen a lot of people say they can run the Lexus LS400's for almost a half million miles, they can be picked up fairly cheap now..

A 1000 lbs sack of grain on a shopping cart has better handling than an Exploder LOL!

Originally I was going to say an 18 yr. old boy. But that just didn't seem right, so I refrained. :D

Really! I think I'm going to email the seller and ask for pictures. I'm curious as to what an $400 BMW conv that runs looks like?
Didn't you have one the was wrecked? You could have put the interior from it in this one.

No, the one I own right now is not wrecked and is very pristine -- it just need s a couple of hoses at the moment (a white e30 M3), but the e30 that I previously owned, a red 1988 325is, was wrecked. That one went to heaven a few years ago, however. :(

Scion TC, if money is not an issue. Phenomenal gas mileage, my gf in college had one and they are good cars and hold their value really well. My current gf is on her second TC after totaling her '09 right by my house. They have ipod hook up and are a perfect girl car.

I think the Scion has a Corrolla motor in them? Maybe the whole car is made by Toyota, not sure but pretty sure the motor is.

9th gen Corolla would be another good option.
The Scion engine is the same 2.4l from the Camry, and I believe the same 2.4l that's in the 10th gen Corolla. The 9th gen Corolla is the 1.8l 1zz from the Celica GT (similar to the 2zz in the GT-S, XRS, and Lotus Elise/Exige but w/o the fancy variable lift head and 8k+ redline).

it is all made by toyota, however the body is specifically scion, and so is the suspension. not sure abuot frame. the engine is the toyota 2.4L 4 banger found in carollas, and camrys.

That is true and I apologize for not knowing what "inexpensive" was classified as for my friend. But in the end, the 17 year old got another car and is doing okay. I forwarded all of the options from our thread here, but I don't know what she ended up with.
Thank you everyone for your input! If you still have a car for sale, I would suggest putting it in the Classified section of this forum if you haven't already.
