I am finally looking at buying an Orbital Polisher. Thanks to Mike at detailperfection.com, I finally got a grasp of the concept of different pads and was able to do better research. Autogeek has been very helpful to understand features/benefits of the different makes and models of orbital polishers. However, nothing compares to someone's real experience.

I was comparing the Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action Polisher and Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Polisher.

Who has an Orbital Polisher, what make/model, what do you like/dislike about it?

Thanks!

Brian,

I have two Porter Cable units (7424 & 7424XP) and a Flex 3401. I don't have any experience with the Griot's unit, but have heard some good things about it. The PCs are great units for your first random orbital. They can handle pretty much anything you will need as long as you choose the correct pad and polish combination for the task at hand. The PCs are very durable and you might have an easier time finding various accessories (such as different size backing plates, replacement counter-weights, etc) for them as compared to the Griot's unit

If you do get one, take some time to learn how to use it properly and realize that your results will improve as you get some practice.

Autogeek (http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-3596920-10509474?url=http://www.autogeek.net) is a good source for purchasing these and they have a good selection of pads and polishes. If you want to discuss your cars, paint condition and pad/polish recommendations, PM me. Autogeek (http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-3596920-10509474?url=http://www.autogeek.net) is a partner of mine and if you don't mind linking to them through my web site or using the link in this thread, it helps me build my business with them.

Good to know about the link through on your site. I bought a couple of items from Autogeek earlier this week. Next time I'll ling through your site.

As far as my cars, they run the gamut of paint conditions. I've always done my work by hand with varying degrees of satisfaction. I haven't been able to get the swirls out of my dark colored Civic (daily driver - lots of abuse). After learning alot over the past few months on paints, cleaners, polishes, care, etc., I'm wanting to take my detailing to the next level.

When ready, I'll send you some pics. I obviously have lots of practice vehicles before I get the the S2000 and BMW Sport.

Sounds good. If you bring the car to one of the meets I'll be glad to take a look at it for you.
