This should be a pretty good race, however, looking at the numbers it should come down to driver ability depending on how well imaj can keep the GXP in the top of the upper RPM range where the 4-banger makes all its power...

Should be a good one. I'm such an instigator.

Having driven both in stock form, I would have given a stock/stock race down to the driver. However, with the mods on the GXP, I dunno. I'd hedge my money that way, unless the 3.0si isn't stock either.
Crash
03-26-2009, 12:36 PM
3.0si is stock.
Yeah, I have a few things. Mostly bling engine stuff. But I do have a reprogrammed ECM, catback exhaust and that cheap little mod...the K&N air filter.
I have no idea what hp I am putting to the ground. But, based on what others have said with similar mods it is around 290 - 300. That might be a tad optimistic. :)
Anyway, it will be fun. I just want to see if I can hold my own with some other sports cars.
Thanks!

I assume you are talking 290 - 300 at the flywheel. I think the GXPs were rated at 260 hp at the flywheel from the factory. If you are anywhere close to 290 at the wheels you have made some huge gains from your mods.
Rob1796
03-26-2009, 01:49 PM
I'm gonna have to change my opinion. Looked up some of the numbers, I think its gonna be a driver's race either way. The GXP I drove felt faster than the numbers I've found suggest. From a dig I think it will be close, but up top, it looks like stock 3.0si's I'm finding are traping anywhere from 2-5mph faster than mildly modded GXPs. Hmm, could be very good. Looking forward to seeing what happens!

You are correct on the stock numbers. But 290-300 is whp. the 2.0 can go with the right tune.

Actually, why is this a straight line race? These are two cars that are made for canyon carving and track work. Neither of these cars were designed for straight-line speed. Any one and any thing can drive fast in a straight line...let's put some skill in this and make it a time trial around a track.
Oh and here's a link for comparison: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Vehicles/2008/Z4/Z4Roadster30si/compare/default.aspx I've been comparing it to the Sky since I'm pretty sure the Sky and the GXP use the same power-line (I saw that the Solstice was listed, but it didn't explicitly say GXP so I went with the SKY)
Hey Black Sheep. The tuner (I am told) is one of the best in the business. Lyndon Wester of Westers garage.
Oh yeah, I have no idea on brake boosting. Maybe you can teach me...Yes?
jragan...I like your idea and would be open to working the track.

My 3.0Si is stock, but I have beaten an Audi S5 off the line. Hammering it around 50mph to 110-ish I could never overtake him... he was clearly faster. But don't underestimate the car! :P I'm excited. As far as the straight line race, I always hear people say our roadsters aren't meant for it, but I always get surprise from those who see us sprint... I would love a twisty race too!! For those betting, raise the stakes!!! haha...
Stats on the cars according to Edmunds:
Bone Stock
NA to his TC
3.0L Inline 6 to his 2.0L 4
255hp at the crank to his 260+
220 torque to his 260+
3086lbs + me at 183lbs to his 2976 + him
his is wider, mine is a bit taller and longer
Stock, the GXP has
Max Horsepower: 5300 rpm Max Torque: 2500 rpm
Stock, mine has
Max Horsepower: 6600 rpm Max Torque: 2750 rpm
not that it really matters, but why not:
GXP:
Turning Circle: 35 ft.
Mine:
Turning Circle: 32.2 ft.
Doesn't sound very good... he's lighter, more hp more torque, and a bit smaller... we shall see!
Finally, to my GXP driving opponent: see you on the pavement, friend! :driver::deal::fight:I very much look forward to learning what the GXP can do!

My 02 boxster s' numbers might be closer to the z4, except for the weight, but it's a tip so no true manual advantage (the tip will autoshift way before redline even in manual mode).
Bone OEM
hp: 250 @ 6250

Love the Z4 3.0si Coupe. Always had fun driving them. And surprisingly, my big a** fit in it nor problem. I'd even take one with steptronic because the new ZF transmissions are great boxes for autos. Buuuuuuuut...

Looks like I'd have to shave off a lot more than the weight of the spare tire. I'd have to get the Boxster down to 2460 lbs just to get close to making it a fair fight, and that's not even taking your mods into consideration ... much less the torque you're putting out. Of course, I'm not making excuses to backout. I'd run against ya just for fun :D
Per Edmonds:
05 SRT6
hp: 330 @ 6100 rpm
tq: 310 @ 3500
cw: 3240 lbs
hp per lb = .1016
02 Boxster S
hp: 250 @ 6250
tq: 225 @ 4500
cw: 2855
hp per lb = .0876

New cold air induction that actually has my filter in front of the radiator, smaller supercharger pulley (bumped from stock 14.5lbs of boost to 19lbs) ECU tune from LET motorsports (Benz tuner) and deleted the factory resonator. Thats it. All the other mods are for cooling. These cars suffer from heat soak pretty quickly with the stock set up. Also, this is the same 3.2 from the SLK32 AMG and the C32 AMG both that are rated at 349 stock. We SRT6 owners are not real sure where the "19hp" stock difference went, but we are guessing it was just in marketing.

I realize that this car is an anomaly to most, they built 2000 SRT6 coupes for the entire world and there are only a dozen of them at best in DFW. It is a of course the ******* brother to the SLK32 AMG with a different body and stiffer suspension. I drove one of these years back at the Dodge SRT experience where they brought out all the SRT cars from the Neon to the Viper and anyone that attended this will agree that this little car embarrassed the Viper on the track. I do not think there has been a direct comparison to the Z4 but in this article, http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?article_id=1985 the SRT6 beats out the Porsche Boxster S and Nizmo 350z. I personally have not auto crossed this one, but I have a couple of buddies in California that do pretty regularly with great success. Granted it weighs more, but also has the HP and low end grunt to make up for it.

I don't think anyone is trying to discredit your car's abilities, I myself, am not certain of anything, and so, would verymuch like to see the outcome first hand! After the exciting torque display when we took from zero, I do think I might have an advantage: my rear couldn't be cut loose from zero if God himself tried to get it!!! haha.. again, I'd like to try. As for talk of crossfire's, your car is in this discussion now as the reigning champ of the first test, that makes at least one crossfire a very hot topic in this thread!

I raced one in Mexico a few months back. Only put about 1.5 or 2 cars on him by 80mph. We started at 50-55mph. I thought that he was pretty fast for being able to keep me from putting more on him...

:hahaha:Nope...BMWAgee did not accept the challenge. Oh well, he would have lost anyways. After all it is a bmw!
BMWAgee is always up for the challenge... BMWAgee started this thread... BMWAgee is down, any time, any place. For the record, when I win, mine's a stock N52-powered 3.0Si. :burnout::burnout::burnout::bandit:

This should be a good one. I know both these guys WILL race, we just need to pick a day so both know to show up. I know how far it is for BMWAgee to come to the meets and none of us are there every week! :thumbsup2:

I'm pretty sure that BMWAgee showed up many times that the Solstice did not.

Adrenaline, eh? We'll see what we can do. :thumbsup2: It's been a while since I was out that far, but if memory serves, the far end of the tollway toward 380 is a good open road. Anyone know where this should go down?

Then you need to be at all the Saturday meets, no better way to get adrenaline flowing than to get out there in your special car in the morning! :burnout:

Awe, I'm going to miss this. It is opening season on the family farm... so I will be out slaughtering the bird of peace.
Snowball, I am at every meet admiring your car. (Well almost every meet.) I am referring to this site. It is dead with little activity. It needs more excitement!

Agree...... :thumbsup2: But, a way of getting the adrenaline flowing is to get more people at the meets so more things happen here and there. That way we have more exciting things to talk about.

Well, so that it's known, the slightly-modded Pontiac Solstice GXP is the faster of our two cars. After multiple runs, including two mid-range RPM pulls and a 0-120 mph pull, the GXP won each round. Congrats to imaj for winning this little competiton!
Hey Jordan, It was fun. Thanks! Here is a little vid of the event. Enjoy!

lol I found that quite nice as well, despite how everyone is calling me by name, and how my signature has my full name... lol I didn't realize you could do that!

Congrats to the winner. Hopefully the "test" runs were performed on a closed course? yes? Plz do not post street racing threads. :)
Correct...It was on a closed course. Sorry for not making that clear in my original post.

I just assumed that it was on a closed course, since all our runs were on one too. :thumbsup2:
