Ive been reading because i went through the toll without paying..... there was nobody in the booths.... so i didnt know what to do so.... i just went lol! hahaha fines? idk wait to see the bill! lol but my main concern is do i have to have my license plate on the front bumper for a tolltag????:hmmmm2:

Drive faster than the cameras ;)

But in all seriousness, you don't need a front plate for a tolltag, just a credit card. They have these new stick-on tags that are free, so no more $25 deposit. They load up your CC $40 at a time. I'm pretty sure they charge you again when your account falls under $10.

Oh, btw, when there's no one in the booth, there is always a change machine in the right lane. But just get a tolltag and stick er up on your windshield and forget about it. You'll never have to fumble with change on any tollway in Texas ever again.

I think Topgear attempted to outrun the toll camera with a Zonda... you could try that! :P jk Blake is right..

Tolltag is one of the few things I own that I would never give up. I love it. If you go through without paying, they will send you an administrative fine for however many boths you passed through. I did it once when my toll tag was off my window (it falls off in the summer unless I take it off), and passed through two booths. The fine was for like, 4.75 or some low amount.

If you go through the booths without paying you will receive a notice showing a fine and administrative fee, along with the cost of the toll owed.

If you have a tolltag associated with the license plate, but it just didn't read properly, then call them on the number provided on the notice and they'll look up your account and waive all penalties and fees except the actual toll. I've done this two or three times with no hassle. I believe they just want to make sure you don't abuse it.

Regards,

Darren

My plate # is registered with them... I don't even have a toll tag anymore... bells go off every time I go thru the gates. They just bill me the proper amount.

They actually did manage to outrun the camera in a TVR I think they had to go over 170 to beat the camera!

Insane video. I remember seeing something about a young girl who wrapped her Porsche around a tollbooth either in Cali (I think). The booths don't move for you, so make sure to aim correctly. Or slow down.

Go with the tolltag. It's easy, and I believe the toll rates are cheaper with the Tag versus paying cash. Watch the Staties, too. Seems like I always see one somewhere along the tollway. They really take the fun out of it...

Good call. It's definitely nice to have. You ever go to DFW? You can use it to go through there too (and to park), as well as the 121 Tollway north of here. I am not positive on this, but it may work in Houston and a couple of other cities. But, that may be another tolltag I'm thinking of. Still, the tollway is nice and worth the money IMO. If you're clear of police, you can let the hammer down on the tollway and fly. Just watch the booths.

LOL, aim is kind off important when negotiation stationary objects at high speed!

NTTA toll tags will work at Houston and Austin toll systems. A few years ago, though, when they first put in place the ability for Houston to use the NTTA tags, there were a lot of bugs to work out...like the NTTA tag would trip the toll, but it wouldn't raise the arm/gate...try explaining that to a booth worker :) I double paid a number of times.

Yeah, see, the Dallas North Tollway doesn't work that way for me. When you first get on it North-bound from its Southern-most entrance off of 35EN, there are no toll booths, just an overhead, and no signs. So I'm always forgetting to grab the tolltag out of my console and slap it on the wind screen when I go past the first overhead. Even though that tag is registered to the car's plates, they never automatically reconcile the two...Instead, I get the penalty letter in the mail.

thats right, a TVR, not a Zonda...

plus, you don't even have to go to the NTTA location, they will mail the TT to you. AND, when you use a toll tag, you pay a discounted toll amount, for example, a $1.00 toll is $0.70

If you go through the "Zip-toll" approach (e.g. just letting them send you the bill, you pay full price. Also, if the toll booth isn't a "Zip-toll" (e.g. if it has a person or change machine), they will sometimes fine you $25 per toll (that's right, 40 cents becomes $25.40), so it is just easier (and cheaper if you use it frequently) to get the TT.

I used to work for the company that makes the TollTags and do toll collection system integration. Although NTTA does not use their toll collection system (just tags and tag readers), FDOT in FL does and their system is extremely accurate and can determine your speed with extreme precision. I remember a while back there was a fatality w/ an FDOT employee crossing the lanes and FDOT subpoenaed the records to verify that the Suburban that ran the guy over was going the posted speed limit.

Be thankful that toll systems like NTTA do not submit speeders to DPS...

///Michael

When I worked there, the company had a test track somewhere out in the mid-cities... a 1/8 mile track to test the system. Imagine going 80mph and trusting that the gates will go up. :)

So, do you know the max speed the sensors can read? I have always wondered what it is.

I used to work for HNTB the engineering firm that does all the work for the NTTA. (I worked on the NTTA website, and did all the maps on there too)
Every few weeks, we would get an email, of the "Car of the Week" from the guys at the NTTA office; exotics, a car going through the gate while on fire,
several naked people in a convertible, guys on bikes doing wheelies through the gates, one week there was a photo of an open-wheeled Formula 2000 car.
As far as the max speed goes, one week they had a black Corvette going through the speed lanes, clocked at 167 and the camera got 6 pictures of the plate.

Got a penalty letter the other day when I was in the rental... had the toll tag on the dash, just didn't read. They reconciled it off for me and suggested that I register the rentals plates with them... even if it was just for a day.

Oh well. Beats a fine though.
