curious to know what domestic guys are running for rods on high HP cars. Its a lot more common to see LSX cars putting out 600+whp so im curious as to what these guys run.

piston combination as well if its not too much trouble.

thanks

Carillo Rods and CP Pistons.
Not sure what to use for just 600hp though.

i see, well go with me here for a few minutes will ya.

carillo and Arrow are about the only ones used in bmws, but majority of bmw owners are suckers and believe their engine is made of some special metal. which is what tacks on the ridiculous "luxury tax."

CP pistons are the only brand of pistons that come to mind for bmws as well...

advice?

ive made calls to CP/wiseco/JE but 1 offs for a V8 are something in the ball park of 1500 for pistons

arrow/carrillo both quoted me 2400 for 8 rods.

i know the rod specs for my car are 53mm big end, 22mm small end, and 141.5mm length.

ill give manley a ring tomorrow, hopefully the guy from JE calls me back. im "ok" with 1500 for CP pistons which come with rings.

but i refuse to dish over 2400 for forged rods...am i crazy to think that $2400 for 8 rods is excessive? no special coating or anything, just H beam forged rods.

Oliver builds some of the baddest rods IMO. They have stuff from 500hp to 2000hp. Carillo is also an awesome product like Kelly said. JE, CP are some of the best pistons out there TMK.

sounds about right to me
H beam carillos are pricey

I am running a K1 Carrillo right now, but the new build is getting Lunati Rotating assembly with custom JE Pistons.

thanks for the info guys!

so arrow at 2350 is out of the picture,

i located a set of carrillo for 1850, which is i think as cheap as their going to get. so ill be going with that set.

yea

3 week wait on CP because they didnt have the pistons i wanted, i went with a smaller bore size and lowered the compression as well. cant go wrong with a thicker sleeve and lower compression. the carrillo rods were a lot cheaper than the arrow and everyone says good things about carrillo so why not? 1850 shipped vs 2400 shipped.

checkbook = :argh:

did you find the correct size of rod for lower compression piston?

why not getting mahle pistons? possibly the best in the world

rod isnt changed when changing the compression on the pistons. the piston does all the work from what ive been told.

and no mahle because even CP is a little over kill for my power numbers. my marginal cost benefit curve wasnt pretty when i compared cost to marginal benefit. so CP it was, CP has also been proven to work in the S62 and the sleeves were designed for these CP pistons. so everything matches each other.

i was debating leaving stock rods in there but i didnt want things to grenade and my wallet go boom...:argh:

haha.....getting ready for forced induction, too? what else are you plan on doing?

just the basic stuff, meth, 9.5:1 compression, reduced the bore to 92 from 94, sleeves, forged rods and pistons, rebalance, basic head work, and a blower.
