I have never had vanos issues, although my engine has seen every other possible problem you can imagine.

I think its the TCKs that really did it to his car...
On a side note, I am a moron and cleared my codes and now me or classic can't get the to reappear...

They replaced my entire engine based on that code. It seems the engine decided to toss a valve into the cylinder #9... cylinder #9 did not like the valve and promptly ejected it thru the intake manifold.

Funny how those cylinders are when it comes to foreign objects invading their turf!!!!

Whelp, car goes in on monday for the P1525 code ("A" Camshaft Position Actuator Control Open Circuit Bank 1 (BMW)) This should be interesting to see if they do it under warranty or if I have to fight with BMW NA for warranty

In over 20 years of buying BMWs, I have had my fair share of warranty repairs. Not once did I ever have to fight with BMWNA or the dealership to get it fully paid for. I see this concern from so many people and it kind of amazes me. I could understand if the car has been abused their not wanting to pay their fair share, but a car guy doesn't usually abuse his own car.

That is what I like to hear, there are many stories over on M3F.net about dealerships saying that this specific failure is not covered and after a few conversations with BMWNA and proof other dealerships do in fact cover this repair it is usually covered. I am just trying to prepare myself if it does come to that. Currently I have the documentation of the original warranty letter, documentation of others that have had it covered, proof of my original in service date as well as other pieces of pertinent information.
I am just sad that they have no BMW loaners for that day, I was hoping to getting to play with a Z4 as they have really been catching my eye lately. I also plan on purchasing a new car next year and would like to start building a relationship with Classic since I have heard a lot of good things about them. The new 335d is really appealing right now.

For those that are interested, I got a quote from Dr. Vanos in Round Rock and was extremely surprised by it
Hi Thom,
Yes, local installation is available for the E46 M3. The cost would be $300 for the vanos and $150 to install it.
Where are you located?

Fantastic! Now if BMW gives you any trouble with the 6 year 100K miles lubricated poart warranty, you have a low cost alternative. :thumbsup2:
Just don't know much about that lubricated part warranty only regular BMW warranty and BMW CPO or BMW extended warranty. :questionmark:

Thanks again for pointing out that they are semi-local, I almost want to do the replacement as a preventative maintenance.
I did just get a call from Classic, apparently my issue was using a generic code reader gave me the wrong code, and I got a cat code in reality. This code will be fixed by a software update that will roll out in the next couple months.
 to classic
