Laser Interceptor Group Buy
As many of you know, the latest threat to drivers is LIDAR, or laser speed guns. Many of the police departments in the DFW area are now using these laser guns and if you are relying on a detector to save you, it isn't going to do you much good. Your only real defense is a laser jammer and they are perfectly legal in most states. Note that this is not the case for RADAR - jamming is illegal, and effective jammers do not exist. Also, for any of you that have gone ahead with RaceMX's V1 mirror integration, you have likely lost any laser detection capabilities from your V1 and really need one of these LI units to offer much needed protection. (The combination of the hidden V1 with mirror integration and a LI unit is the ultimate in stealth protection.) :D
I have talked to Cliff Crane, the sole authorized distributor of the LI in North America (http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/home.html), and I am pleased to be able to offer the DFW Auto Club some great Group Buy pricing on what is arguably the best laser jammer available today!
I personally use a 2 head Laser Interceptor (LI), the laser jammer that has been rated the highest in independent testing conducted by Guys of LIDAR (GOL), an independent testing group. As you can see, the LI was effective at jamming every LIDAR gun (http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008/laser-jammer-test.html), usually all the way to the gun (known as JTG – Jam To Gun - meaning the gun never got a speed reading)!
Beyond GOL (http://www.guysoflidar.com/), there are many independent videos showing LI results on the web, including here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrecgnTQrLQ) (long) and here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRHDxhEEEko). Do NOT be fooled by any nonsense from the retailers of Laser Star (http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/www.laserjammertests.com) – the Laser Interceptor is the real deal, and the only one proven to work against all guns in independent tests.
Here are the prices for the various LI options and pricing levels. Note that all prices INCLUDE shipping to the US, but international folks can also participate (add $35USD for Canada or $45USD for International).
LI Dual Head
Retail $700
Our GB $550 <-- $150 less than retail!
LI Quad Head
Retail $1225
Our GB $1000 <-- Save $225 off retail!
LI Dual Head, High Power
Retail $1400
Our GB $1100 <-- $300 less than retail!
LI Quad Head, High Power(this unit that was able to protect an RV all the way to the gun!!!!)
Retail $2450
Our GB $2000 <-- $450 off retail!
These units are the latest version of the LI with the faster processor, new, smaller laser heads and user downloadable firmware upgrades. I'll do my best to answer any questions I can as openly and honestly as I can, so fire away http://www.m5board.com/ubb/smile.gif
Cliff is offering us a great deal, and there is no waiting until we reach a certain volume to be able to order the units. (There is a limit of 2 units per person at these prices.)
If you are interested, please PM me and I will get back to you with the details for purchasing. Payment is made directly to LI-USA and your unit ships from them immediately.
If there are other boards you frequent where this might be of interest, please feel free to link to this thread...

It's a really good deal on a great laser jammer. With the increasing use of laser guns around here this is almost an essential countermeasure.

Hello everyone,
We've recently signed up to carry LI products and would love to take care of your installation need. We've done quite a few installation in the past 2 months with LI Jammers. Definitely, we will offer a group discount for labor for 5 or more. Let me know below and I could come up with installation pricing quote.
How many cars?
Make & Model?
Dual / Quad system?

Cliff from LI recommended Kenny and the crew at Jotech for LI installations to me via email today. I will talk to Kenny and see what we can come up with for discounted installation rates for everyone and post something up soon.

The only times I have received a ticket in the past couple years was from cops using laser.. installed the jammer on all my cars and it's saved my ass more than a few times. A worthwhile investment IMO..
Anyone know what kind of laser guns cops in the DFW area use?

Allen is using the Ultralyte laser guns and I know I was targeted by a Plano cop using a Stalker gun, but in all cases the LI has saved my butt.:D

Just heard back from Kenny on the LI installation. Keny is willing to give us $50 off the install cost if we get 10 or more units installed. Standard install pricing (before our discount) is listed below as per Kenny's reply to me.
"For installation, it really depends on what car it is and where the customer would like to mount the switch. Installation prices are:
Dual System = $300 - $375 (more difficult cars i.e Audi R8, Lambo, most exotics)
Quad System = $500 - $700"
I hope this answers the last piece of the total cost puzzle. Feel free to let me know if anyone has anymore questions.
If you are ready to pull the trigger, just PM me with name, forum name, email address and details on which unit(s) you want to buy. I'll then pass the info along to Cliff so you can buy at our GB prices.

A Euless city official encouraged me to explore my options this weekend. He even provided me a pocket-sized pamphlet to remind me to purchase one - it's very convincing. I'm curious, though, will the standard dual-head be enough to give me sufficient protection?

What vehicle are you protecting? If you are protecting the Vette, a standard dual head should be sufficient, but if you want to have the most protection, the high power dual head will offer all the protection you could ever need from the front. I have not seen any cops using laser from behind, but some people get the quad head units to cover the rear as well.

When I discussed this with Cliff, he said the dual head would give me more than enough protection for the front on a 2009 M3 and that the HP heads would be overkill. I did go ahead and buy the quad unit to cover the back as well. If LIDAR becomes more widespread, I figure it's probably inevitable that someone will try to shoot me in the back. I'm having mine installed by Kenny this weekend.

I had my quad unit installed this weekend at Jotech (Thanks, Kenny!). Great installation, detector units are fairly inconspicuous. You would have to know what you're looking for to find/notice them. I'll post again if I have any laser encounters to report.

Considering doing this... budget-wise I'd rather go with just the Dual-Head, but as Wango remarked - if this is becoming more common it makes sense to do both the front and the rear now...
Sounds like my little SLK doesn't need the 'High Power' versions tho, so that's good.

Yep. By all accounts, the HP heads are overkill for average size vehicles that aren't painted in chrome so going for the quad-head rather than dual HP is better bang-for-the-buck, IMHO. Of course, moderation is not generally a mainstay of these boards... :D
I am a little concerned about the volume of the internal speaker. If the radio is on, it's fairly difficult to make out the "Welcome" and "Parking Deactivated" announcements after turning on the ignition. These are supposed to be the same volume as the alert per Cliff. I'm going to do a little more testing and may add an external speaker.

I'm sure it depends on how loud you listen to the stereo, but if you turn up the volume on the LI, it should be fine. I can hear mine without any trouble when it goes off, but I'm not cranking up the tunes either.

Bokke ordered the 2 head standard power unit, the same as most of the others. We have had one member buy a quad head unit and no one has yet purchased a HP unit, although if protecting an SUV, I would suggest the extra power might be a good idea.
Let me know if you want in on the GB so I can pass your info on to Cliff.

The standard power units will do the job for you. The two head is a must, and the quad head just offers extra protection if/when the boys in blue start shooting laser from behind us...

for the Quad-Heads - where do they mount on your rear? I can imagine the fronts are hard to notice since they likely go behind the grill area for most cars, but how about the rears?

Primary rear target is your plate so you want to mount near there.

I think that if you look at the test results from the Guys of LIDAR link in the begiining of this, you'll see that the LI outperforms the shifter by a significant margin. Standard power unit will take care of your M3. It's your call if you want front only or front and rear protection. I have not seen anything on a new laser gun being used, and my LI has jammed anything Frisco has fired at me.

Yeah they've learned that they can sit up on elevated onramps to highways where no one can see them (except for in their rear-view mirrors) and shoot people from behind as they go by and then come flying down the onramp behind them to pull them over. The onramp from 35W-Southbound to I20-Eastbound frequently has a smokey with LiDAR sitting up there.

I am replacing my out of date ZR4 shifter system.

I think the standard power unit will cover you. The High Power units are needed for trucks and SUVs, but if you want the extra power and added jamming protection offered it's like HP on your engine. Is there such a thing as too much power?

As the interest in the GB seems to have dropped off, I am officially closing this out. Another reason is that the holiday sale LI USA is currently running offers better pricing than what we had in the GB. If you have been considering one of the LI units, I'd suggest buying directly from Cliff during the current sale.
Thanks to those that participated in the GB.
