View Full Version : Time for a New Daily Driver?

I know that this isn't a new press release. However, my son is now driving my Civic :turtle: (yea ... because I no longer have to!). This doesn't leave me many driving options except for the 14 year old 540i Sport 6MT. Not a bad daily driver but my wife wants it back. :bawling:
As I was searching through the usual econo box press releases, this one about the Ford Focus ST caught my eye again. Car and Driver Ford Focus ST (http://blog.caranddriver.com/ford-unveils-turbocharged-2012-focus-st-ahead-of-paris-auto-show/) Seems like a pretty nice package with 247 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque from a turbo charged 2L engine. Ford seems to have turned this around lately with better styling and quality in their upcoming products.
Has anyone seen one of these at any auto shows yet? I like the looks way better than the Civic Si, but Honda is supposedly refreshing the Civic for 2012 also.

Have you looked into a Mini Cooper S? I just got a new one for my wife and I must say it really is a quick little car. It handles on rails, and I'm super impressed at the driving dynamics despite the fwd. Makes me want to get one as a little track car.

I'm with ya, it would be as fun as a Miata on the track and yet not as common. You wouldn't feel bad about beating the **** out of it because parts are cheap and Ford dealer up the road would be able to do most of the work on it. I want to be the next Ken Block. :driver:

They are only releasing 500 of them for 2011 but that number will be x10 for 2012.

I went to the Europe website and they state all 500 over there are gone. They are just teasing us. They know we want that car bad, so they are making us lick our chops a while until we are willing to pay good. They are cool cars. It will be just another car that changes Ford more to the better in the US. I would trade a Porsche to get this car.

^Calm down. It would be a Boxster Spyder. Not a 911.

I've had a 2004 Focus SVT, and although it wasn't the fastest thing around with 175HP, it sure was fun to drive. If the new ones are similar in feel I'd be very tempted. My sister has a Mini Cooper S and it is a blast to drive as well. Quite a bit quicker than I expected. parts prices suck, the A/C compressor has died, along with belt tensioner, balancer and a few minor things.

Buying parts for a Ford does sound tempting as long as it performs. I am working on some upgrades to the BMW, and even for an older one, the parts aren't cheap!
If you are thinking cheap Ford parts...Why not go with a 2011 Mustang GT? Hangs with an M3 on the track.

Did they get rid of the solid rear axle?

Who cares. Just the fact that a Ford Mustang GT hangs with an M3 is a miracle. And at half the price. I am thinking of getting the boss 302 track version. It's just too good looking to not consider.

That Laguna Seca version is pretty drool worthy...Not wait a year worthy, but definitely nasty..!
And no Michael, it's still solid live axle...

No kidding. Ford is definitely playing a game the others can't seem to join.

Hey Brian, what about that S2000 as a DD? I just sold my 540/6MT DD and I was looking at an S2000 as a DD myself?
An E39 M5 makes for a fun DD as that's what I'm using now LOL. Not sure how long I want to keep up with buying fuel & tires for it though LOL.

I am in the process of putting my S2000 up for sale. If you are seriously wanting to consider buying one, contact me as I am not too far from you. As a result, we are putting some money in the 540 to do some needed maintenance and do some upgrades at the same time.
