Yep, I've been talking to him on the GT-R forum trying to get him to come out, and then he wrecked it, so it won't be out for a while now.

I've heard that there are 3 in DFW that have been wrapped in flat black.

He wasn't paying attention getting on 75 on-ramp and rear-ended an SUV at 5 mph - ~$16K damage to the GT-R.
He's ok and not hurt, just the GT-R.
Very scary how high repair costs can get :(.

I believe skinz wraps did that for him. I was looking through their site the other day, their work is pretty impressive.

You can get you car wrapped in any color (including matte black) in a day or two and it only costs $2,500.

Well, at least the wrapping protected the paint from getting scratched.

I'm glad this thread is here. I was considering getting just the top portion of my car wrapped in black. I wonder if they can use a gloss black.

Please don't ruin your beautiful car! It's perfect as it is. Do performance upgrades instead! :)

Give them a call. I bet they can knock out a roof panel in an hour. Seems pretty easy compared to the other stuff they do...

Thanks alot, I appreciate the compliment. I don't think it would look too bad. There are a few of the C5 and C6 guys that have done it. Basically it would have the same effect as the ZR1 top. How the B-pillar bar and roof panel are c/f except black on my car. I'm on the fence about it but, I will try to get some pics so you can see what I mean:).

Go for it. If you end up hating it after a few weeks, just peel it off...

That's what I was thinking also. Much cheaper and easier to manage than an actual paint job.

Maintenance is simple as well. Simply wash and dry. No wax needed.

what is the longevity of a wrap? I would love to have my roof panel done..

They have a 5 year guarantee against fading/cracking/etc.

only problem is swirl marks... I've had rally stripes on mine since about a month after I bought my turd back in '05, the Vinyl is soooooo soft, that it's VERY easy to scratch, and harder to "fix" those scratches, I think a full wrap would look like poop in a year, but maybe there is a new compound that I don't know of yet that could fix this, however not any that I've seen yet...:hmmmm2:
so...

I have heard that there are different brands with different thicknesses out there. The thicker, the higher the price. For my car, I've seen prices from $2200 up to $3500 for a full wrap. It's supposed to be really easy maintenance once it's on.

I've got a buddy that does wraps if anyone needs someone. He's reasonably priced as well.

It's not the "thickness" that is the issue... It's the fact that Vinyl is sooooo soft and VERY easy to scratch (not scratch through, just swirl... read: light scratches) Vinyl is not paint and can not be treated the same way, I have used some VERY fine plastic compounds on mine, but you have to be soooooooooo careful, and it still doesn't work that well... believe me I wish I could find something better, but so far nothing...
