Phong was very nice and let me use his gopro for my solo check ride last weekend. Got about 10 mins. before battery went out on camera. Not bad for being on the track for the first time.

Awesome video Michael. The sound of your car is intoxicating.

Not bad at all. :thumbsup2:
Did you ever get a clean lap?
Looked like 2:10 to 2:14 with traffic and you're not even trying. Of course it always looks that way on film.

The lens on the GoPro does have an interesting effect on the footage. Cars look like they are way off in the distance. I think it's better outside the car than in. Later in the session I had some open laps and the laps felt good. This was the solo instructor and he had me pushing hard by the end of the session...don't know what the times were.

Phong had an lcd screen on the camera that depleted the battery quickly.

During my actual initial solo session I passed a track prepared vette, my target all along that day, and it felt good!!! ECR is really a nice track.

I've been contemplating a GoPro as well. But with the wrapped car, there aren't many spots to mount it externally. I'm also trying to figure out how to get a feet cam in my car now, my old car had a different setup.

Here's a video of ECR a few years ago in my old 996 [2000 C2]. It's an OK lap, but for once I got both cams to work in the same session. As you can see, I dropped to 2nd in turn 6, although we later figured out [through data analysis] that running 3rd in the U-turns was usually better.

For me, staying between 3rd and 4th just seemed to be the right combo. Need more laps experience on this track.

Where do you mount the camera to watch the foot work?

CC: How was TWS?

Better track than ECR or MSRC. Had some car trouble, but I passed every car there. Including 3 GT3 RS's. Several times. I like that place.
Get Robert's take on the deal.

CC: How was TWS?

Very nice momentum track. Only 1 semi hard braking right turn. Other than turn 6 (the one that I didn't like, seems dangerous, high speed tight left turn with a nasty drop off and very uneven pavement right at track out ) it was a great track. I would love to go back there someday. I got the line down I just need to work on increasing my speed.

Any video of TWS? I can always find "stranger" video on youtube, better to see someone you know.

What kind of car trouble if you don't mind the questions?

Silentrun, TWS is a must drive... Best track in Texas, imo. Your RS must experience it :)

I love turn 6, but yeah there is a nasty rut developing at track out there.

May 21-22 Driver's Edge event is the next time I'll be at TWS. I think we may even run Clockwise, which is a blast. Turn 7 downhill is even more exciting than uphill...

I will be there one day...maybe May. Just glad we have choices with MSRC and ECR which are awesome and any day at the track is a better day than at the office. Even the 1.7 CCW at MSR.

I don't have much captured/posted from TWS, but here's a vid of my first trip there in my old C2 [many moons ago].

Breaking 2:00 used to be the benchmark, but with the improved platforms and high HP, getting down around 1:55 seems like the new goal. With E class racers putting down 1:53-55s, and spec Boxsters running in the 1:56s, it wouldn't surprise me to see various 997 cars getting well under 1:55, closer to 1:50 soon.

The cup cars were running 1:40's. Like maybe high range. I didn't time my runs but wish I had.

Will be interesting to see what the cups were running this weekend as other classes had new track records. MyLaps will have results soon. I think the class records for the cups is sub 1:45, but I'm not sure if that's just the 996 or includes the 997 cups. If cups are ~1:45, I think 1:50-1:53 is about right for various 997s on the 2.9 CCW.

A well driven 997 cup should be in the 40s or 41's. A 996 cup can do 1:42's. Don't expect to see those times at a PCA race though.

Right. TWS runs 2.9 [CCW for the clubrace]. ECR runs 2.5.

That sounds right, on all counts.

I'm really interested to see what I can coax out of my RS at TWS. Using a poor man's lap timer (the car's stereo with an mp3 player) I saw a best of 1:53 there last year in my Turbo. Figuring that's around 2 seconds inaccurate, I go with 1:56 as my time to beat with the new car. CCW that is. I have some real data from November going CW and best was 1:56.9, only second time driving CW so not as fluent with it.

My last logged track time is Dec 5, it's been too long...

I feel ya! I haven't been back to TWS in almost 2 years! [driving that is, I stopped by to see the PCA clubrace]. And I haven't been there in the GT3 at all. It's so close now, I really don't have an excuse...
