The pucker factor at around 7:18 or so, when he's doing 181mph and had to apply some counter steer. That's DRIVING!!!

That dude was haulin. Jim Mero definitely can get it done. I was in the right seat a few years ago with him at TMS when he gave hot laps on the road course at Chevy Press Day in a pre-production ZR-1. Fun ride.

7:19 and change is insane. I bet they can squeek it down to 7:18 and give Porsche something to sweat about. Love to see what the 4.0 will lay down when it debuts.
I still wanna see the GT2RS run at 7:18, anyone have a link?

It would take several links....then cropped and edited together. As that car hasn't come close without using an Excel Spreadsheet to show how fast it "could" be.

Porsche needs to grab Wohrl and set the record straight. As much as I hate to say it, the ZR1 is king as it stands.

Look at the ZR1 video again.
They start the timer at one point and then stop it several hundred feet before reaching that same point again. :hmmmm2:

I like the responses from the P-car crowd in this thread. Classy and I mean that seriously. Competition is improving the breed for everyone. I am thankful to Porsche, Dodge, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Nissan, etc. because the intense competition is making it better for all of us.
How incredibly awesome would it be to put Rohrl or Bergmeister in a GT2 RS and Magnusson in the '12 ZR1, both completely factory production stock and then let them go at it for a few laps at the Nurburgring with video for the world to see? It would never happen, but damn, it would be awesome.

I do hope Ralph Gilles tells the Viper team to take a '10 ACR back to the Ring with a top driver to see what it can do. It would help usher in the next-gen Viper if they can put up a great time.

You won't find one.
You have to understand, the 7:18 was a manufacturer claim. Porsche said the car would do it in 7:18. That's enough for P-Car guys. The rest of us like our car companies to be willing to take a trial by fire and put their stuff on camera. I mean, never mind that it could be a 7:18.00 or a 7:18.99. Who needs hundredths or even tenths when you have such tasty koolaid? Also never mind that Sport Auto was only able to pull a 7:24 with it. :p
Bear in mind this is also the company that said it was simply not possible for the GT-R to run the time that it did, soooooooooooo.....
I think you can come sit with those of us at the rolling the eyes booth and take some grains of salt with the margaritas.

Why not take all this hostility to the track? Top five domestics versus top five P-Car (I'd say european cars, but P-cars are the only ones who will put up much of a fight). Can see about renting out a strip and a course for a day. That'll settle the trash talking. Can do it annually.

Performance speaks for itself, and GM and Ford are making momentous strides in recent years. I highly respect the direction they have been going, and the numbers they have been generating. They have garnered my respect. The ZR1 is a beast.
A P-Car may be a dentists car or whatever, but performance numbers aren't everything. What draws me to Porsche is the engineering prestige. 590 whp from a 3.6 litre engine, and no gas guzzlers tax to boot, is commendable. Imagine what the 2RS would be with 6.2 litres and a couple extra cylinders.
Karter01
06-11-2011, 10:48 PM
I think all those numbers are a bit rubbish arent they(for the Ring)? Different drivers are used who may know the track better than others which could put them seconds apart on that big of a track. I think its a good ball park for putting cars into different "classes" if you will, or I could be wrong.
Truth is, all these cars are beasts. When you take all the official claims out of everything and are just out there to have fun, it comes down to who can really drive. If you can stay ahead of your buddy, thats all that matters.
Fubar

Well the 2012 GT is running 7:15s according to my calculations.
ZR1 shares the same problem that the RS has, it's looks to similar to it's less vicious cousins. Except, of course for the ridiculous paint scheme you can get on the RS. Kudos to GTCole for staying classy with the red. Nothing says "ignore my receding hairline" like that classy guardsman red.

Brett
06-13-2011, 06:05 PM
Yes, and imagine the ZR1 with another $150k of extra engineering put into each car.
Well, considering the $50k it costs to go from 3.8l to 4.0l apparently, as between the GT3RS and GT3RS 4.0, for a 6.2 liter Porsche, at that rate, Porsche would have to add $650,000 to the MSRP for a total of $895,000 for a GT2 RS 6.2, so.....
They can have their GT2 RS 6.2 Apple Red Edition if GM can charge $785k more for the ZR1 Metallic Orange Edition.
It's all moot. Porsche simply isn't your first stop if you are looking for performance/dollar ratio and domestics shouldn't be your fist stop if how small your motor is a point of pride rather than a worry. The ZR1 gets the job done and your wife won't look at you like a mook for making her ride in it.
I should mention I do in fact like Porsches ... I just feel they sometimes have too little in common with porcupines.

Agreed. Definitely shouldn't be in the market for a Porsche if you are looking for the best performance value. The ZR1 wears that crown without debate.

Is 34 mid-life nowadays? :D It's fun to do the ACR versus ZR1 debate, but the fact of the matter is, both cars are bada**. Viper looks more exotic, has a monster 8.4L V10 NA engine making 600hp, can do headers/Mopar ECU and keep factory warranty intact, has some great downforce and can tear up a track with most any car on the planet. ZR1 looks more plebian, has a supercharged engine making a touch more power than the Viper, a little lighter, carbon ceramic brakes, and is more comfortable in day-to-day driving at a small cost of on-track prowess. It also cost a bit more to buy than the ACR.
Honestly, I've been a Vette guy since I graduated college 11 years ago when I got my first new '01 Vette, but if I had chosen an ACR over the ZR1 with my most recent car purchase, I doubt I'd be crying myself to sleep at night.
Both are sweet rides and can smoke nearly any P-car on the track which is all that matters. :D :D j/k

I'd argue that the 2012 Nissan GTR is the best bang for your buck, and a simple tune and a couple mods (still cheaper than the ZR1) would make it even faster. I'm a big fan of the ZR1 though, really like what Chevy did there.

Hah, I wish. Dodge had to have its arm twisted by the owners before it would do it the first time. Also the Gen 4's are out of production, so no more revisions until the new generation, which will be a 2012 model year. Unfortunately, though, comments by the CEO cast doubt on the ballsyness of the next generation, so it may not even be in the running for lap time manufacturer wars. Heavens knows Dodge hasn't been up for racing beyond one-make spec races for many years. :(
"The Viper cabin is very rearward and the hood is very long. Few cars in the industry are designed with those proportions anymore."
"I want the new Viper to be a more forgiving car to drive and accessible to more people. We've never had stability control on a high-performance car, which is about to happen on the new car."
....among others.
The Cup cars.
Pffft. That's cheating. :turtle:
