So what's the story on this car? I can only imagine the owner just bought it, or someone who has never driven one before, got their first, and only, chance to drive it. I've heard that's around $6k all said and done :(

Ouch!

When I lived in Vegas, I had a clutch blow out & basically lock me into gear after the drag strip. It was an interesting drive home, doing synchronized engine shifts, but popped in a new clutch the next day & ready to ride again!

Was this a manufacturing defect, or poor driving?

When I saw the disc picture I was like "man it doesn't look that bad, certainly not enough to put shredded wheat into the bellhousing like that."

Then I got to the picture of the other side. Yowzah!

I just put some hot spots on mine ;)

bah...thats just some burnoff....get birds nest in the clutch and transaxle like I did on mine :)

I had crap everywhere when I burned mine off at the mile.

Clutch $2000, Throwout bearing $180, Flywheel $300, transaxle fluid is $25 per quart. By the time your done your about $2500 in parts. Take it to a dealer your looking at $6-7K to do one. I think the GT Guys charge about $4500-5000 installed

Ok, before this goes too far off track

Client purchased car from Dealer in Fl sight unseen. Car was delivered to Dallas Friday and put in parking garage. Client flew back into town Sunday and went for a drive in his new to him ( 45xx mile ) Ford GT. :thumbsup2:

I get a text that the car won't go into gear down the street from his house. He has it towed to Autoscope Park Cities. :hmmmm2:

I get back from Austin shortly after and push it into the building.

Monday morning, a closer inspection showed the birds nest of material poking through. We quoted the clutch repair based on previous situations ( Clutch kit, bearing, flywheel, etc ) Client forwarded to selling dealer who started off with how he could get it done for $3500 locally... Just for grins, I called over to the local Ford house as well as 3 other known GT shops here in Texas , jut to make sure I wasnt missing something ( Disclaimer: Autoscope is NOT the cheapest place in town... )

Fast forward a week of dealer trying to get the job does cheaper , car gets towed out to a Ford dealer in Richardson. Another week passes and guess what... the car is towed BACK to Autoscope Park Cities. Why? Because 1. They have never done the job before 2. They couldn't get the car on their lifts!:banghead:

So 2 weeks AFTER the client took delivery of the car , the car is back, but wait, there's more... the dealer again , has waited till now to order their own parts... another 4 days wait time :slug:... :banghead:

Parts arrive ( car is already apart by this time ) goes back together and car is ready to go.:driver:

Client asked if we could take a look at the voltage gauge and boost gauge, as in the 5 or so miles he DID drive the car, they were not working. Again, the dealer "found on the internet the cause and correction" and wouldnt pay to have it fixed correctly :banghead:( No, it wasn't a battery voltage or dirty connections ) .... anyways...

Client has car now and is enjoying it on the streets of DFW!:driver:

We are finishing the lettering on the yellow calipers from last week and are looking forward to his Murci coming in later today... :thumbsup2:

Is your client sure he didn't roast the clutch? Fair amount of the cars were killed within 5 miles by owners that thought 3rd was 1st. This was the car that North Central called a friend of mine about to see what he would charge to do a clutch.

Also the gauge issue is a known problem with the cars. Replacement of the gauge is the only fix at this time. Its not known if its an electrical or moisture problem on them. Some cars have them go out some don't.

1. Yes, very sure. ( This isn't his first GT ) But agreed.:driver:
2. NCF called your friend? Interesting, everyone was trying to pass this car around :hahaha:
3. Noted and agreed on the gauges. I just thought it was funny that the dealer was trying to diag the car long distance and quoting internet opinion as fact :deal:

My understanding was they called Rob at C&S and Taylor to get quotes on the clutch. They didn't want to do work on the car. I originally had my car ordered there but they couldn't fullfill the order. They do not want to service those cars as did Aikman Ford back when they came out.

Good job on the repair(s) then and thanks for sharing pics & story. Sounds like it should be a terrific GT now that a couple of things are corrected.
