View Full Version : What's the most *unique* mod you've done to your car?

Unique means one of a kind, not something you bought that's plug-n-play, something you did yourself to make your car different from anyone else.

Examples..

1. I bought a Z8 start button and mounted it to my dash.
2. My smg shifter was way too hard to push/pull due to a very stiff spring. It is not possible to replace the spring without destroying the shifter so I wrapped fishing line around the coils and compressed them - effectively cutting the spring rating by about 70%.
3. Shift paddles had same issue.. removed springs and cut part of the coils off.
4. In the process of installing my a/f and boost gauges inside my rear view mirror.
5. Planning to install LED's in select areas of my interior for accent lighting at night.. similar to M5's.
6. I would love to add comfort access but I'm afraid that would be very expensive. Maybe not?

My kidney grilles are currently one of a kind. Gerald will have a set for his M6 soon. My GT500 is one of a kind. I had the stripes custom made. I think it's gonna be a lot easier for me to make my M3 truly one of a kind than my GT500. So many different things to do with the M3.

I am currently having a shop out in Montana make me a custom shift knob to house a 9mm bullet that was shot through my passenger side door. :D

Red Mustang GT with exhaust and cobra rims (This was a random encounter as I saw him doing 100mph and decided to see how fast it really was). I flew past him a couple of times and I guess he didn't like the outcome, as we approached a stop light, I hear a loud pop and bang. Reallized he just shot at my door (didn't think he was trying to kill me otherwise he woulda aimed for the window). I was in the center lane, mustang in the right lane, immediately after the incident he took a right turn and disappeared.

Didn't know it was a real gun until I saw the bullet, initial thought was that it was a BB pellet.

**Will now think twice before tryin' to play with random cars in Mexico**

This was a hack to back out Chrysler's CCD bus protocol in the Jeep:

...and modifying the "information center" VFD text display to show arbitrary messages, like ID3 tags from the ipod interface. (can't find the pic...)

M3 had a hud for a while. Never got the double-reflection thing solved though. Also will have digitally-controlled celis ring brightness if I can ever get around to finishing the board layout. (same board will work on M5 over ibus)

M5 is getting a FLIR later this year. Also probably a custom audio interface to a VX-7R. Have the V1 reading out to the cluster StealthOne style (using the SOne firmware on a custom board. Planning to stick a second V1 in the rear bumper due to my crazy metallic euro-windshield)

Oh, and the next M3 mod:

Euro S50B32 w/ a bunch of Group N parts.

My most unique mod I believe was the billet grille on my 99 S500 back in the day.. I took an Excursion billet grille and cut it the same size as the 500's and it fit perfectly.. I got so many compliments on it and so many people asking where they could get one. That and the Brabus wheels set that car off.. They just don't make em as solid as that anymore.. Double pane windows were sick!
