My dad always seems to have trouble keeping his Porsche batteries alive as he has a truck for a DD. He has tried quite a few trickle chargers and still has had to change batteries out.

Any good remedies or battery suggestions to keep a good charge?

Is he using The type connected to the cigar lighter or direct to battery?

I recently had a current draw in my 964 that was killing the battery after being parked for 2 days. This was very out of the norm as I've left the car parked for nearly 2wks before w/o killing the battery.

The problem and solution turned out to be the door switch in the door jamb. Apparently if the car doesn't sense you opened the door after turning off the ignition, it will keep the windows powered and draw 230+ mAh. My solution was to play with the switch in the jamb and that made it start working again. I also set my interior lights to come on w/ the door opening, and now I make sure the interior light turns on when I get out of the car.

He has tried both but I think his most recent one is the cigarette lighter type.

I have always used the Battery Tender (and Jr.) on my motorcycles. They will also work fine on a larger battery. I have always had good results with them.

I've also had really good results with the Deltran battery tenders on my BMW's and other cars. The advantage they have over a trickle charger is that they are designed shut off once a battery is fully charged only turning back on when the battery voltage falls a bit. They can be left hooked to a battery indefinitely without damaging the battery.
