Hey guys, this seems to be a shift linkage problem. Basically, I drove off from the gas station and my first gear was completely gone. All the gears seemed to have moved over to the left. First gear was in reverse and reverse was completely gone. I wasn't able to shift into the first gear position at all, seemed like it was completely jammed. I followed Jim's video from dieselgeeks on how to adjust the shift linkages. After doing that, the box shifted very smoothly into each gear, first gear was able to engage again, however, when I shift into reverse, the car still grabs first gear instead of reverse. Have any of the Audi/VW guys come across this problem before? Any advice would be appreciated!

I have no idea, but Steve (SAFE4NOW) at Autoscope Park Cities (http://www.autoscope.net/) is the man to look at it. Take my word for it or the next 15 people in this thread who also recommend him :D

The TT has very limited adjustment for the linkage. It sounds like your linkage sliped on the shifter shaft of the trans. If this is what happened you will have to continue to fine tune the range so you can find reverse and all of your other gears. When the linkage slips like that its hard to get it back to 100% the first few times. It sounds like you have a good handle on the situation, let me know if Steve or myself can help in anyway.
