My old boss (see what I did there) invited me to snap some pics of his 1969 Mustang Boss 302. Back in 1995, he decided to rebuild the motor and pulled it completely out of the car, only to be called that night and be told he would have to leave for Bosnia to work there for a few years. So the car sat until he came back, and he decided to re-do the entire car. He's worked on it a little bit when he gets time, but has since had 3 little boys and an understanding wife that take up whatever free time he has, when he isn't putting out fires here at work.

The car isn't complete yet, as he was trying to fab up the exhaust yesterday when I swung by, and he still has a lot of little things to do before he starts driving it (bleed the brakes, line up the body panels, etc.), but he did fire it up for me and it sounds REALLY good. Hans Feustel out in Fort Worth worked on the motor, and on the engine dyno it made 572hp at 7500 rpm. The original motor is at his house.

Stock 69 Boss 302 heads with a 2.25 intake valves … with very minor port work
Bud Moore Mini Plenum intake manifold
Solid Flat Tappet Cam
Dart cast iron block
Sonny Bryant crank
Oliver Rods
JE Pistons
750 cfm Holly Ultra HP race carb
10.5 Dynamic Compression
572 hp at 7500 on pump gas
455 Ft lbs torque at 6000

He's really proud of the car, especially since it wasn't an unlimited budget build, and he did a lot of the work himself in the garage. I figured there were a few old school Mustang guys here that would enjoy it, and I'll post some more photos when he's completely finished with it.

Wow, you don't see the Bud Moore "mini Plenum's" at all any more. That was a very rare piece back in the day. From what I know there are only a handful around now. Those are some great #'s too. I've got some pic's from a build like that, but they are all prints. Once day I should scan them & post. Thanks for publishing these, from ...one of the Ford guy's on the forum...

Unlimited budget build and 1960's Koni shocks don't mix.

Just sayin'.

:hmmmm2:

I said it was not an un-limited budget build, he's just been working on it as time/budget allows over the years. For my own curiousity, what other options are out there? Full coil overs?

Full coil overs?

Lots of nice vintage upgrades Specifically for Mustangs here... http://www.totalcontrolproducts.com/products.html

Yes, with a rear end like below. When you build the motor to put out twice the amount of stockish horsepower, it's just typical to upgrade the suspension to handle it...

This bolts right in...

From the owner:

I’m not a fan of Total Control products and that setup isn’t the way I would go… rather a panhard rod setup or a watts linkage setup like this:

http://www.fays2.net/fays2_watts_link_22_.html

If anyone looks close enough, there are some mods to the rear setup… staggered rear shocks, reinforced shock plates and the rear axle has a touch of negative camber added to it. A lot of it is just preference. Once I get the car a little bit sorted out… then I’ll know what it needs next.

From the owner:

Yeah....to each his own.
That's like swapping in a NRE TT powerplant into a Model T, keeping the stock suspension and expecting it to perform.
