Default Date place in Dallas?

Well, since I don't think that my little RWD Aveo is going to impress the girl all that much, I was hoping for some recommendations for good places to head out to grab a bottle of wine out here in Dallas. I've got an easy time with good places out in Fort Worth, but Dallas is still a little new to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The lady and I like Capital Grill. It's in Dallas, at the Crescent. It's not a boutique type place, just a good steakhouse w/ damn good steaks and sides. Service is always top notch. We usually get their cheapest bottle of Pinot noir, lol, but it's great too. They usually call to confirm the reservation and you can tell them if it's for a special occassion and what not.

This post is more of a FYI, but there are half priced bottles on every bottle in stock on Saturdays at The Ranch in Las Colinas. Had a good '07 duckhorn cab for $65 a few weeks ago

It depends on how fancy you want to get. The Wine Therapist is a wine bar and is pretty nice, but overall not very expensive.

If you want to eat, and don't mind picking out your own wine the restaurant my g/f works at is pretty popular and BYOB: Urbano Cafe (http://www.urbanodallas.com/).

It's not actually italian, and they run dinner specials and such weekly so the menu changes pretty frequently. Also, did I mention it's BYOB with no cork fee?

Also, my hands-down favorite place in Dallas is Charlie Palmer @ the Joule. It's pricey, but awesome. Also, a friend of mine there is a sous chef and makes all the wonderful sausages.

Charlie Palmer's are great places, and the DC and Vegas ones have amazing wine cellars so I would assume this one does too.

MERCY (www.mercywinebar.com) in Addison is hard to beat. It's owned by a good friend of mine, Glen Agritelley, who is one of the world's renowned Roy Orbison memorabilia collector and fanatic. Mercy is named for Orbison's song, Pretty Woman...and the lyric Mercy! Glen owns Orbison's '85 Porsche. Great selection of wine as well as good food. It's not as fancy as some of the others listed but also not as expensive and intimidating.

How about The Grape. Small joint on Lower Greenville run by a CIA graduate. They were voted best burger in Dallas or Texas. Can't remmeber. Great menu. Very good service, but not over bearing. Good wine, fair prices. Lot's of value there. Very "Bistro/French" feeling. Menu on a chalk-board. Believe you will come away impressed. Chef is Brian Luscher if I spelled it correctly.

Going to give this one a shot for the first time out - only met the girl once, so I'm not entirely sure how this is going to go. I'll definitely have to work my way down this thread. I'm a bit of a wino, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the recommendations, y'all!

Hey rhino-x, My kid's at the CIA now and trying to get an externship position in the Dallas/Fort Worth area so she can come home. She's tried to call and e-mail the F&B Director and Chef Romero and they just don't respond at all.

Some CP rep's came to a job fair at the CIA, but did not know anything about their Dallas location. She'd like to get more into Charcuterie, so may be a good fit. She's had front of the house & Kitchen experience for 6 years now, but for Externship wants to work in a fun kitchen environment where she can learn and polish her skills.

Any thoughts?

For anyone as confused as I was, CIA must obviously mean Culinary Institute of America, and not the Central Intelligence Agency. Don't judge me.
