Default GT 350???

Anyone on the board pick one up yet? Curious on first impressions; either base or R model? Would like to have your thoughts. Over-hyped? Sound good in person? Feel it needs more grunt/torque? komodoloro will want to know if shipping is included...

My brother wants one, but no dealer wants to sell one at MSRP and he doesn't want to pay the premium.

Will (Crash) has an R, but it's an investment so I don't know what he thinks of it.

Bear with me as I am not a wordsmith!

I drove a GT350R last fall at Laguna Seca (4 laps) during a FORD GT350 media/consumer launch. Overall I like the car a lot but ultimately decided to keep my LS302 and let the R I had on order go. The motor is incredible, my first lap out I kept trying to short shift just over 7K out of habit as my instructor pushed me to the 8250 red line. With that said torque came on early and didnít fall off until the top of the rev range. The exhaust note was intoxicating standing on the front straight away (it was a 105db day) but it didnít do it for me when driving even with it fully open. The transmission is hands down better than the last generations Getrag MT-82. Combine all that and the new chassis with magna ride suspension and it is much more predictable than the Boss and oh those brakes stop on a dime.

Funny though overall the car lacks that seat of the pants excitement I get from my current car. However I still wouldnít mind owning one if the price is right.

Is your Boss modified? You can throw a couple of little tweeks on a car and really make it talk to you so that when you drive another car without (say short throw shifter or stiffer springs) it warps your perspective. I've heard mother but good things regarding the new Shelby but I am like Tomboy... until I drive one, it's all talk.

As a side note, I seriously question the longevity of the ford flat plane crank (and I'm a ford fan-boy). I just don't think you can do that much displacement and make it last. I've heard similar echoes in the Ford engineer camp as well.

Interesting feed-back... I would think the same if they were going to boost it; perhaps smaller cube, but boosted. They just have to get more power in that thing...

Slight modifications, aftermarket shifter, springs, swaybars, exhaust, brakes

Don't get me wrong it's a friggn awesome car and the MY17 should be even better with the reported improvements to the cooling system.

The one thing we heard is the entire engine gets a healthy dose of tread locker on every nut and bolt due to vibration to keep it from coming apart.
