I have answered my own question, at least in part. The ESP protocol is like so, and note the daisy chaining reverses the polarity each time. So I'll try a male-to-dual female RJ11 adaptor plugged into the V1, then plug the V1 connection into one port and double stick it to the bottom of the detector. A little ghetto, but that's just how I roll.

I also know for sure that there are several Anna units that run K band. Some of these smaller towns in Texas just haven't spent the money to upgrade yet. While others like Van Alstyne and Howe now have Laser units.

Just be careful when limiting your K Band.
In addition to KA, Irving is still painting with K band even on newer patrol units.

i love the v1 and i had this same question a couple months ago... i did some searching and all i could find were articles about what causes these alerts and there was nothing you could do with the v1 except turning the specific band off...

now they have this upgrade... i'm really curious how it works out... it used to be just audis that gave me problems but now it's a bunch of cars and it's hard to tell which car it is on the highway...

also, has anyone else with a v1 gotten a laser alert when passing certain construction areas? for example... when heading east on 635 towards I35 south ramp, i always get a good 3-5 seconds of laser alert... this never happened even during early construction in that area... but now it's consistent... what could be at that construction site that's causing a laser alert?

bluejae - I have the Escort Passport 9500 ix and I get a laser alert every now and then when cruising on 114 past DFW airport...sometimes I see Grapevine motor jocks running radar...and I can always see them...but these alerts are when they are not around...my guess is a laser source from survey/construction equipment or possibly security perimeter?

I turned off X and K and it's certainly a lot quieter. Hopefully the next thing I hear isn't a siren. I'll try this for a while and decide if it's too risky.

I get the same alerts along 635 as well on my 9500xi - I believe it to be the toll tag reading stations.

i've had X turned off for a while now but i just couldn't get myself to turn K off... what i've done is enable the automute function for K band 30 seconds... so i'll have 30 seconds of muted k band

Using the V1 connection, I created a custom profile for my normal around town driving that has bands X and K disabled and KA limited to the 3 frequency ranges that police radar actually use. This has the added benefit of allowing you to turn off the KA false alert logic and improves the V1's instant on KA performance quite a bit. I'm willing to take the chance of disabling X and K since I haven't had a real X or K hit in DFW in years (except The Colony) so I'm willing to risk it instead of deal with constant false alarms. I have a second custom profile for road trips or rural areas where X and K are on with the same custom KA profile that improves instant on performance (which our Highway Patrol loves to use). So far I am extremely happy with the results, I get a nice quiet detector with awesome performance and arrows to tell me where the alerts are, for me its the best of both worlds. With the V1 connection you can switch profiles in about 30 seconds so it's not a pain like it used to be on the V1.

My custom KA sweeps (based on the advice threads on radardetector.net) if anyone wants to use them:

Ok after some consternation I am going to guess you don't use the V1 connection app, but YaV1 or some such? I looked and looked and looked for this screen to no avail but when I went to the radar forums saw other apps. You have to set up the windows differently in the V1 Connection App it would appear.

OK update after more hunting around. You have to go to Euro mode for these custom sweeps and to make this screen appear. Have you tested against using US mode and setting these frequency ranges in the "boxes" for Ka? It just seems like the boxes and traffic filter might work well to and I am inclined to start there as the frequency overlap is much like the above.

Correct, sorry I forgot you had to enable Euro mode. The frequency boxes are useful in showing if a KA alert is real and auto-muting false alerts, but you are still sweeping the full KA range so you don't get any of the performance increases. Anytime you add a filtering mechanism you are slowing the devices reaction time down by some degree. Obviously everything is a tradeoff, by only scanning +/- 100Mhz ranges you speed up the reaction and filter out false alerts but leave yourself open to a radar gun that is way out of spec.

I am very comfortable with the compromises I've made because I used a 9500ci for the past couple of years that displayed the KA frequency and I never had an encounter that was out of those ranges. With my settings my V1 is completely silent unless there is a real threat and my assumption is I will be far more likely to ignore an alert that I think is false with a chatty V1, then the slight chance of getting hit with an out of tune radar gun or random Plano X or K band radar.

Edit: Also forgot to mention this is using the stock V1 app. Good luck!

If I wanted to be lazy and not wire my V1 to my new ride, what shop is best to have the work done at? prefer plano/frisco area.

I have been using the basic setup with the Traffic Monitor Filter on, and Euro mode off, so no custom sweeps for now. X and K are still enabled, but I may get rid of X. I need K as I often drive through Benbrook and they seem to ALWAYS have a speed trap - I suspect traffic tickets are a big part of revenue.

The number of falses is way down, and I am still trying to figure out exactly what frequencies the Audis, Cayennes and now Suburbans are all using to see if I can filter down and still keep K active.

I just need to be pretty conservative as I am on triple secret probation due to a spate of miscues on my part last year. I'll take some falses to know that I won't miss the real thing
