Default Anyone Here with an IS300?

Looking to pick one of these up next year as a DD. Trying to see what issues they may have.

Funny you should post this. I've been looking at them for a dd as well and was going to make a thread. They seem to hold their value pretty well.

I've had mine for about a 1.5 years now. It had ~130k miles when I bought it and I'm a little over 150k now.

Pros:
Very reliable daily driver - Other than oil/filter changes I've only had to replace the battery
Still looks nice for a car that was designed over 10 years ago
Rear wheel drive - some have limited slip diffs from the factory

Cons:
They aren't that powerful (I think somewhere between 180 and 200 hp at the wheels is common)
only get 20-24 mpg average depending on driving style (I drive pretty conservatively and average 23)
Very hard to find one with a manual transmission

I found good information here: my.is forums

Feel free to ask any more specific questions. I don't post much here but will try to check back...

My wife likes her '08 350. No huge issues, with almost 100k miles.
There was a brake recall and valve train recall. Other than that, she had the navi unit replaced under warranty.

these cars have the non turbo supra motor (2jz-ge)
slow (220bhp stock) but good looking cars that are very reliable. after having a car with a 2jz-ge in it for 3 years, they're great motors that will last you forever.
i'm wanting one as a daily as well.

and yes, they're very hard to find with the w58 (5 speed manual)

Check out Infiniti G35's as well.

Also Reliable. 306hp V-6, G-37's have 335hp.

08-09 4-doors can be had in the low 20's.

There's one in town pushing around 800 hp. I took a video of him doing a 180mph pass a few years ago.

That 3.7 is a great motor. Bulletproof and a nice flat torque curve. It's like the G35 with intake, exhaust, and a tune. And yes, very reliable. I've got 120k miles on mine and have only had a couple very minor issues.

That's Tom's IS. Thats his older setup with the 74 as I recall. He stepped down to a 71mm. Anyway IMO is300's as everybody has mentioned is a damn reliable car. Engine is practically bulletproof if you keep up with maintenance and parts are fairly reasonably priced. Also the car is soooo easy to work on. You don't have to get a manual as the autos are common and everywhere. The autos are a bit slouchy but still its a dd not that it matters much. I dont see much issues with these vehicles when I work on them.

I know Tom's is a manual but I'm not positive if it's the getrag. I'd guess it likely is, as I'm sure the oem 5spd can't handle the power. I'm surprised he's not on here. I've mentioned the site to him a couple times.

w58 can only hold 350-400whp. build r154 5 speed can only hold about 700whp.
stock getrag v160= 89489593whp

Thanks everyone for the information and feedback. Call me crazy but, I prefer the look of the 300 over the 250s and 350s, F version is another story obviously lol. Since it would be a DD, I'm looking for an auto car. Don't plan on too many mods, of course we all say that at first right lol? I've seen some very clean examples sporting just some nice wheels, lowered, tinted and very few mods. They seem to be fetching about $6k to $10k in some areas, which should leave plenty of funds towards the C5 modding.

I've had my IS for about 6 years. They have a few quirks but overall are great cars. Only thing that seems to go wrong is the O2 sensors go out (they have 4). The auto tranny had a few recalls and can have a few issues with hard shifts.

I've been very pleased with mine with my only gripe being that it needs 50 more hp. Power delivery is smooth but could use just a bit more.

I average 23mpg with mixed driving and a heavy foot.

I had one for about 60xxx miles almost a decade ago and the car was fantastic. Never had an issue with reliability.
